It seems to be finally 100% sure: Lame 3.92 stable has been released and sourceforge page updated (Lame 3.93a in works).

LAME 3.92 April 14 2002[list]

we'll know better tomorrow smile.gif

LAME 3.92 stable Win32 binaries are already available from http://yarmusic.by.ru/eng/download.htm

(edit: please test later with a different 3.92 stable binary if the output is identical)

I'll wait for mitiok's ones

It looks like mp3dev.org isn't even updated yet (as of 15 April, 12:38PM PST).

So does anyone know, is this just a minor update (as I suspect)? Or is there something new that will increase encoding quality and/or reduce file sizes?
agraham
It's offering 3.92 as the latest version.
http://www.mp3dev.org/mp3/ still says 3.91.
tangent
From the changelog, doesn't seem like the changes will make much of an impact. --alt-preset VBR and ABR (but not CBR) are now in libmp3lame thanks to Gabriel. Gabriel added --cbr switch to the main frontend, but looks to me like it's mapped to default CBR rather than --alt-preset CBR. Takehiro has added interchannel masking with the --interch option, looks like it'll only be useful for low bitrates. Gabriel expanded the --alt-presets all the way down to 8kbps (Dibrom only went as low as 80kbps). Naoki has some nspsytune2 codes in there, but they are currently disabled.

The compiles of this one from yarmusic and the latest compile from mitiok,
both create identical files.

They are different with alt preset standard from mitioks 3.91 final.

3.92 creates smaller files in the range of 3-7 kbit/s

Is this meant to be or only different compiler options?

It's unclear wether or not this version is a real stable. The "most official" mirror for LAME binaries is http://mitiok.cjb.net/. If you find 3.92 stable there, it really is 3.92 stable.

edit: Download link to alleged 3.92 stable binaries restored; use at your own risk.
CiTay
3.92 stable is indeed out. Nonetheless, i suggest waiting for binaries to show up on the established sites:

http://mitiok.cjb.net/
http://www.hot.ee/smpman/mp3/

I never heard of that russian server before. Apologies if those binaries were for real. If they were not, don't tell us that we didn't warn you.

I strongly suggest restoring the original John33 news post to its original state now. biggrin.gif rolleyes.gif

Probably beta, huh? Why not probably stable?

I'm sorry but Lame 3.92 IS NOT RELEASED.
It wasn't officially announced, the website hasn't been updated, sourceforge neither.

Basically what happened is something that you could consider as "a few manipulation errors", and it seems that everyone rushed just by looking at the cvs logs.

So once again: THE LATEST LAME RELEASE IS NOT (yet) 3.92
Gabriel
ok, now I'm lost.
The website has been updated, so it seems that 3.93 was released.

...waiting for clarification...

...argh... Now this thread is in the news section.

Yesterday Alexander told me that he thought it was not released. I'm waiting for Mark to really know.
I'll told you as soon as I'll be sure

According to CiTay, Lame dev Robert Hegemann had said that Lame 3.92 has gone stable.

But Lame dev Gabriel Bouvigne just posted:
\"I'm sorry but Lame 3.92 IS NOT RELEASED.

LOL!!!!!!! It's a late april fools prank.

(OK, now I'll STFU)
Gabriel
I think that you could change the news to "Gabriel has a psychotic behaviour"
JohnV
Hehe, don't worry Gabriel, it happens.
I don't wonder though that there were small confusions.. Obviously this release wasn't as well informed as previous. smile.gif

So after all, John33 was right already 18 hours ago when he first posted the news. smile.gif
john33
Well, that was fun!!biggrin.gif

I've never seen such an innocent post cause so much "mayhem"!!!wink.gif

(Nice to get it right, for once!)
Gabriel
It's still not finished...
The sourceforge mirror announces 3.92, but the official homepage announces 3.91
john33
Does the left hand know what the right hand is doing????tongue.gif

Since the latest CVS has version.h showing 3.93 alpha1, it must be a done deal, surely? It can't really make any sense to backtrack. Even if it wasn't intended, it must be best to live with it now.

About LameDropXPd, in "Tagging Setup Option" is possible that the "Album" tag is exchanged with "Title" tag?

Sorry for my bad english... sad.gif

You can use the placeholders (%1, %2, etc) any way you like. You can also enter literal text if you wish.

I think this is a bug not an option sad.gif
