Is it possible to convert a 6Channel ogg in to a 2 channel ogg?

I ask because I am having problems hearing all channels on my setup, even though I have a 5.1 system.

I have an Audigy Player connected to Inspire 5300 speakers and I still cannot hear the centre (dialogue) channel.

All the settings in Windows are set to 5.1 speakers, but still no joy. AC3 files play fine through media player, it just seems to be 6ch oggs . I have version 0.9.9.0 of the codec, although the files were encoded in an older version. Any ideas?sad.gif

Tobias will soon release a new version of the DSF which will allow several possibilities of downmixing to a 2/0 system.

BTW- 5.1 Vorbis works fine for me on a Zoltrix and Santa Cruz card.

@MaTTeR

What player are you using?
MaTTeR
PowerDivx 4 alpha17

It's not public but soon a preview release is expected. In theory, any DirectShow capable player should work fine but that's not been my experience to date ;-)

You are able to play 5.1 AC3 through your analog outs? I'm not talking SPDIF here, analog only.

BTW- This isn't the first post I've read about the center analog channel disappeaing out of Audigy. I recall seeing something about the white port has to be used for the center.

Purely analog, I have no need to use the SPDIF yet, I shall connect it up to my Pioneer VSX-909 Receiver next week!

The test ac3 files all play fine and the test maps to the correct speakers.

I shall try and find out more about this.

Nope, still no joy. Couldn't find an article relating to the missing centre channel. I even trashed and re-installed XP, loaded up the various drivers and had the same problem.

It looks like I am going to have to wait for one of two things:

The DirectShow Filters with downmixing capabilities

or

PowerDivX 4 Preview - Any ideas when this will be?

I suspect the PD4 public beta should be out in 2-3 weeks if were lucky.

Tobias is working hard on the new DSF as well. Expect the newer version with downmixing capabilities pretty soon.

Peter is working on a version of the Nullsoft Vorbis Decoder that supports 6-chan and can alos convert to 6, 4, or 2 chan. I don't know when he will release it though. biggrin.gif

Using the Beta Plugin for Winamp I was able to downmix the channels into a Stereo WAV, which I then encoded to ogg. I then de-muxed and muxed my original 6-Channel ogm using the new stereo file and all is peachy!

The only odd things is, even with that plugin Winamp does not play all 6 Channels on the original ogg correctly!

Oh well, at least I can do what I wanted.

Thanks for all the help. smile.gif
