Hi all,

i was wondering if there is a tool for backing up audio cd's to OGG with EAC? (like we use lame.exe for mp3).
I have been using ogg vorbis mostly for audio in my divx-movies,
and since i like the format i wonderd if i could backup my cd's with it too...
Sorry if this has been discussed before....i couldnt search for eac cause it only has 3 characters.

Yes. Just use Oggenc as encoder.

You can get it at http://www.vorbis.com
And you can get a faster version at http://www.inf.ufpr.br/~rja00/

I suggest using -q 4.99 as encoding switch.

And, BTW, you can search 3 letter words with *, like EAC*

Roberto.

Edit: Never mind, it seems the vorbis.com site is down at the moment. Go for the fast version.

Thanks alot for your quick response,
got it working already smile.gif

The enconding -didn't even used the experimental version- seems quite alot faster then lame (using --alt-preset standard) cool.gif

Yeah. You shouldn't even use the experimental version. It's only intended for people that want to experiment with stereo coding methods.

Then you'll be pleased to discover that there's also "--alt-preset fast standard" in LAME. tongue.gif

P.S. If you're looking for a quality comparable to that of --alt-preset standard, i suggest -q 6 for Ogg Vorbis... maybe -q 5, but not lower.

Thanks for the tip....but i think ill stick to --alt-preset standard.
Don't think a bit faster enconding is worth a loss in quality...
I guess this ain't the right forum section to discuss this anyway wink.gif

There isn't much loss really... you can safely use it.

really? that's cool cool.gif

quickly tried enconding a 2min36s wav:
normal: 35sec
fast: 22sec
So it really quite a bit faster....thanks again for the tip smile.gif
(ogg was 23sec btw)
