hi smile.gif

apologies if this has been discussed in the past, as i have not ever been to the cd hardware/software forum before. i didn't see any posts about it.

is there any cd/dvd burning software that is better than nero? i have gone back and forth between 5.5 and 6 and am decidedly discontent with both! there are bugs and freezes that can completely lock up my drive...

anyway, i was glad to have found foobar to replace winamp, and wondering whether there is anything to replace nero? even any newish, small project?

all thoughts welcome, im curious what your favorite burning software is

for audio cds i was happy with http://www.burnatonce.com/, also check http://www.apehaus.com/burrrn/, also foobar/foo_burninate.dll that uses nero libs and it is working fine as well. (no idea about dvd burning)

I am totally hooked on burnatonce!
Have been my only burning application in Windows for over 1 year. Working great for Audio and Data CD`s. biggrin.gif

I am pretty sure you can replace most of the features in Nero with free software. But you will have to use several ones to match all the features of Nero. I don't think there is any other do-it-all applications that beat Nero.

burrrn and burnatonce has already been recommended. burnatonce is a very good and small application for both data and audio CD:s, and nowadays it handles DVD as well, but since I don't have a DVD-RW drive yet I don't know much about it. burrrn is only for audio CD, but handles that very nice. If you are into Video CD, theres TMPGEnc and VCDEasy for encoding and authoring/burning respectively. For DVD Video I don't know if there are any free authoring apps out there but you can use TMPGEnc for encoding.

For audio, Feurio! is a very good program. Itīs specialized for audio.
Check out their site: Feurio
And compare your needs with itīs many features.
Works great for me smile.gif

Feurio! is certainly one of the few CD copy programs that make true 1:1 Audio CD copies, I can't remember the names of the other ones though, but it weren't many.
All other progs have a problem with the gaps between tracks... (not pre-gap) adding a slight amount (~10 ms?) of silence between the tracks which is most of the time not noticable. There was a discussion about 100% exact Audio CD copy on these forums once, maybe you can find it by searching or someone tells you...

For Data CDs I use Nero, so I can't really tell you any better programs. :/

This problem occur when burning from mp3 or edited sources, i.e. in all cases when the size of the tracks is not a mutiple of cd frame sizes.
Most program have no problem burning 1:1 copies from cd source.

For MP3 and WAV, Feurio is way better than Nero if you don't need crossfading or RMS normalization (and your drive is supported)

do you have any idea how to burn totally gapless cd's? i rip all my cd's with eac and lame 3.90.3 --alt-preset standard, and they play gaplessly and perfectly in foobar2k. but when i burned with Burn At Once (and had the 2sec gap option unchecked) there were still gaps between tracks. playing in foobar split the tracks apart.

any possible fix?

Another vote for Feurio here. I highly recommend it.

but is it just me or is the feurio interface really ugly and complicated? i JUST installed it, so i haven't spent time getting used to it, but the bazillion windows that popped up when i first opened it was a major turnoff.

If your only real problem with Nero is bugs, flame, err, I mean email their support. They put out regular bugfixes so I can't imagine them not caring.

I do not use mp3 myself, so I have no experience with gapless mp3 burning.
But, I suggest you read through these posts in the burnatonce forum: #1, #2 or post your question there. wink.gif

You can disable all those windows in Feurio if you want. Sometimes there's interesting info there.
Once you know how to use, it's much faster to make compilations. It's quite more advanced than Nero.
