are these headphones any good? do they last? whats the audio quality like?

I had the SONY MDR-CD480 (a bit bigger and better SQ than the 380).

(About the 480) - pretty good bass, confortable, easy to drive (directly from sound card or portable), somehow dull frequncy response, sound is a bit closed (not as live sounding as with better headphones). Separate cable so I had no problems, even when accidentally stepped on it when rushing to answer the phone, also dropped them on the floor several times. No probs about durability in two years of daily use.

Haven't heard, but have owned the CD570's and currently the CD780's. The latter is a big improvement and I even rank it above the lower Grados. At $69 they aren't bad at all. Not sure the price you're viewing the CD480's, but if you're trying to keep it cheap check into the Philips HP 170's or especially the Koss KSC35's. Spend some time over at Head-Fi for more headphone info.
