Has anyone been able to play a dvd on there pc without using software like PowerDVD or WinDVD through Media Player Classic.

I am trying to install minimal software on my computer and want to know if its possible to play a dvd using media player classic on its own?

You may need to install a Mpeg-2 decoder on your PC

Where do I get that from smile.gif

No, recent versions of MediaPlayerClassic have a build in MPEG-2 decoder. And yes I have been able to play a DVD using it.

How did you get it to work?

can any one please tell me about any good mpeg2 and ac3 decoders which will work with media player classic.

Thanks
JEN
Never mind, I have found one. It works perfectly with Media Player Classic. I can not play DVDs without installing clunky software smile.gif

If anyone is interested in a simple DVD player, download Media Player Classic, and then install this

[EDIT - sorry link does not work, working links 2 posts down smile.gif]

Sorry about the link above, it does not work. Try this instead. You will need to download "Free DVD Filters" and "MPEG-2 Filters". You will have to install in that same order.

@ zombiewerewolf - I can't really tell the difference, I think it would be best to try it out for yourself smile.gif

I haven't tried it like that, I play the DVD Disc from the drive and click on Open DVD from the file menu in Media Player Classic 6.4. You may have to download another filter to play VOB files, but I am not sure on that.

My WMPC 6.4 dose not show "play the DVD Disc" but WMP 9 does. I don't know what is the problem.
however, i use WMP 9 as default player for video files.
thanks for the link smile.gif

Latest versions of MediaPlayerClassic doesn't need a third party mpeg2 decoder to play dvd files because it has one integraded. All you need is to install ac3filter.

I think there is some confusion between Media Player Classic 6.4 and Windows Media Player 6.4. The one you seem to be referring to is Windows Media Player 6.4 (mplayer2.exe), which does not show that option. Media Player Classic 6.4 does; you can get it here.

Thanks for the info.

I uninstalled/unregistered the filters I mensioned above. Installed only the AC3filter and it works perfectly biggrin.gif

But I now have another question! How do I get MPC to autostart when a DVD is inserted into the drive???

Thanks for the help.
