Full Version: Resampler woes

Basic problem is that resampler (SSRC) causes clipping in lossless files. So far I've tested numerous Monkey's Audio files and their WAV counterparts. None of which clipped when resampler was disabled.

If I enable track replaygain and set it to scale down tracks by 0.3db then clipping stops.

I want to resample all my audio from 44.1 to 48. This is because I have an Audigy 2 which I learned has poor IMD when allowed to use it's own resampling.

Is this just part and parcel of resampling? How can I stop it from happening without using replaygain?

My specs are:
Windows XP SP1
Audigy 2 with latest creative drivers
Foobar 0.7.2

If you really feel the need to use the resampler, you can try putting the advanced limiter at the end of the dsp-chain, things in dsp chain may cause clipping (most likely same for resampler).

You could also lower foobar's internal volume a bit, or use the preamp slider for non-replaygained scanned files to decrease volume a bit, if you dont like idea of advanced limiter. But its a good idea to put it at the end of your dsp chain, since it doesnt do anything if it doesnt need to.

See the FAQ in foobar's dir for hints on DSP chain order, if you need them.

Just as any other DSP effect, resample can (and will) produce clipping on loud files.

The best way to get rid of that would be setting the preamp slider to, say, -1 dB for non-replaygained files and putting advanced limiter in the bottom of your DSP chain (if you want to be absolutely positively sure that clipping never occurs).

This isn't going to produce any perceivable quality loss, execept for the slight reduction of volume.

Thanks for the replys smile.gif

With hein sight I answered my own question huh.gif . The simple answer is to pre-mp files by -0.3db. Then the clipping warning from the core never appears. That means I do trust that the core is detecting all cases of clipping.
