A DVD disc (Traffic) is not being detected at all on my Pioneer/Compaq DVD-115 though it does play on normal standalone DVD players.

What could be the reason?

I have checked with a DVD data disk and I'm reading those fine...I don't have anyother DVD (movie) to check! sad.gif

Is there any kind of protection involved?

Do you see the files of the DVD in the explorer ?

I'm sorry...Should have been more specific! sad.gif I am learning (how to post all the necessary info)

No, Pio2001. I cannot read the files at all! I cannot identify any info on the cover too ( any protection or limitation...)

The message I get is "Please Insert disk into Drive I:"

What other info will you be needing?

I'm running Windows XP, the DVD drive is a Compaq DVD-115 (Rebadged Pioneer DVD-115-ME).

Thanks for all the help. smile.gif

I've had this happen to me with my first DVD as well... I don't know why it happens. Could be a combination of low quality DVD and low quality reader. That's what I suspect in my case... The DVD worked in other places. And other DVDs worked in my unit. I took it back a couple of times to the shop where I bought it and they replaced it with a newer one. Still it has problems on some DVDs but now I just don't care anymore. Have a burner which can read most things so... My advice would be to take the reader back to the shop together with the DVD and say you want them to replace it with a working one - and use the DVD as evidence if they ask for it...

@JeanLuc : It is bit strange, but there is no info on Region Code on the DVD cover. Or I'm mistaken? But this DVD is mastered in India and my DVD drive is at Region 2 (has permission to read DVDs from India).

@ErikS : Quality of DVD could be a issue but I doubt quality of drives to be one of the reasons. I've tested it on my friend's drive too.

Cannot exchange, because it came free with a DVD player, my friend bought.

What is strange is the drive's inability to read / recogonize data when DVD standalone can play the movie... huh.gif

Thanks all.
