The girl in the picture is Rebecka Månstråle Liljeberg - May 13th,1981 Turinge Sweden, an actress who started at age of 7 in 'Op: 7' on SVT.
Rebecka is interested in computers, and was slightly involved in the small computer company Knorca, with some friends. She uses both normal PCs and Macintosh, and has stated that Windows is a challenge because it never works.

Well, has she really said that "Ogg Rocks", or are you putting words in to her mouth? laugh.gif

Ignore the image size for now, it's quite easy to shrink the dimensions to match the rules of the compo.

i like them better now ... but i think you should shrink the drawing a littlem more, and expand the letters, mostly the "hydrogenaudio" ... the 3rd one is the one i like better

Thanks to JensRex for posting my last picture - and special thanks to rpop who has just provided a place where I can upload.

My few words about PNG related technical stuff...
Someone mentioned here about broken alpha support in IE. If any of the logos is going to use that feature, the good way to workaround the problem is to add a PHP function to the code of HA front page. That way it will work for all IE users and won't affect other browsers with proper PNG support.
Also, someone was complaining about size of the image files. There are 4 great (and free) command-line tools to losslessly compress PNGs as much as possible, so they surely will be smaller than GIFs and of perfect quality (unlike JPEGs):
PNGRewrite - counts number of colours used on an image and if there's 256 of them or less, it will rewrite the PNG in optimized palette mode
PNGOut - optimizes compression, for palette or grayscale pictures try the /f0 switch
PNGCrush - optimizes compression, use with -brute switch for best effect, sometimes compresses better than pngout
OptiPNG - optimizes compression, use with -o7 switch for best effect, sometimes compresses better than pngcrush or pngout
Hope it'll be helpful smile.gif

Just updated the logos page for the last time today.

Tomorrow I'll upload whatever has been posted while I'm sleeping, and will move tumu's logos to a separate page.

These are getting better and better! I have a couple ideas I haven't seen yet but I won't have time to work on them until the weekend. I hope the contest isn't called before then on account of "too many good entries."

@tgnb: The crystal icon pack is under a Free software license of some sort, so you are in the clear. I do not recall if the license if copyleft; if so, then you're logo would be covered under the same license. BTW: I think the second one looks better. I assume you used the bitmap version of the speaker icon (the scaling is visible in the first one) - the crystal icons exist in SVG format, so you may want to check that out.

Is there one audio enthusiast, or two or more audio enthusiasts?

If the text refers to one audio enthusiast, then it is correct ("The audio technology enthusiast's resource"), but if the text refers to more than one audio enthusiast (i.e. the word enthusiast is both plural and possessive), then the correct text is "The audio technology enthusiasts' resource".

I think we should check with someone who understand English grammar very well. Maybe consult the Apostrophe protection society.

Cheers,
David.
P.S. Some wonderful images here! Very impressed.
Mac
HydrogenAudio, the resource for the audio technology enthusiast. To me it's for each individual enthusiast, so enthusiast's is ok smile.gif

The more I check this page the more I reckon it will be impossible to pick a single best logo. Personally I would pick 12 or so and display one a month considering the crazy amount of participation and talent shown smile.gif
Q!
ah damn, danbee, those are awesome!

I'd like a new locked thread edited by moderators where all logos are [IMG]:ed, and continuously updated.
moderators please?

Don't finish in the next couple of days though, I've not made my entry yet... I'll be out tonight having a few drinks so should get it made sometime tommorrow or Sunday (or maybe when I get in tonight).

Nobody with personal contacts who could get her to pose? I've got some premium pink champagne in the cooler wink.gif

Serious:
Erm, I doubt it would be a practical issue, but if you are going to use people in the logo I'd suggest trying to get the copyright-holder's (and maybe the model's) acceptance. Better safe than sorry.

my favs so far artistically & staying true to the feel of hydrogenaudio.org, in order:

tigre
user posted image
i like the fact that the hydrogenaudio is a little soft, the phrase could use a very tiny bit of sharpening

sgreen
user posted image
seems a bit big, font seems a bit too fuzzy around the edges & don't forget the apostrophe in enthusiast's

rc55
user posted image
too much solid blue, but something about this one is very appealing, if it were re-worked some

armeck
user posted image
feels like it should be extended further, the image especially - also a little tall

larppa
user posted image
i would stretch the words out more accross the bottom of the logo & shorten the end of the image a bit, maybe experiment with the grey background of the speaker with lighter grey's or even blues

eke
user posted image
i would stay more with just white & blues throughout, a bit more emphasis on the foreground

just constructive criticism that i think would make each one better,
all far better than i could ever hope to do.

great work, everyone!

We should keep all the good logos on somewhere in the forum after the competition, and then people can use them in their personal websites to link back here.

Nice effect you are going for there... but as I am looking at it blending with teh colors of the board, I think the purple doesn't quite match, maybe try a bit more to the blue side? Again I do like it, I ahve begun to think more of a liquidy feel about the logo also.

We should keep it strictly about HA logos in this thread. Maybe you want to start an OT thread where people can post their custom requests. smile.gif

There are some excellent submissions already. My favorites with notes for improvement, in no particular order:

user posted image
(bottom text could be a little more prominent)

user posted image
This one, but minus the liquid effect and the shadow

user posted image
Somehow the speaker doesn't fit in enough. The background thing could wrap around it a little, or the color could be changed.

user posted image
Maybe a slight bit less of the blue shadow

user posted image
The drop could be a little less comic-like and more towards photorealism

user posted image
Maybe make "hydrogen" stand out more

But great work from all of you.

opera - full PNG-Support
netscape 6+ - full PNG-Support
Mozilla - full PNG-Support
IE - PNG-Support still broken (but possible via hacks)

About the "why"... well IE has problems with PNGs since several browser versions. The Macintosh-IE-Team even managed to fully support PNGs in the Mac-IE-Version. My personal opinion is, that microsoft are intentionally not supporting PNG. "Its not a bug, its a feature!"

Because Microsoft never got around to it? Because the moon is not purple?

Microsoft promised proper PNG support for IE4 but never delivered. We're on IE6 and still waiting...

Interestingly, IIRC IE5 for Mac actually does support PNG with alpha transparency. dry.gif

Mozilla (and derivatives like Firebird, Camino, Netscape 6/7 etc), Opera and IE5 Mac all have full PNG support.

Sorry for going off topic...

There are some people in the wrong trade here, I swear! Ruairi's (Sorry dude) old logo at the top is already looking very old, dark, muddy and boldy*

I am just blown away with the quality, I find myself looking at logo's for shops, products, anything now, and thinking how absolutely poor, outdated, flat and ^unprofessional^ they look. You guys need to give yourselves a serious pat on the back, and I can only hope some agency somewhere along the line notices this thread!
