I'm trying to rip my Cd's using EAC / Lame method at alt preset insane (I dont mind the waste). My problem is that I have access to other CD's, which sometimes are in poor condition. Because of this, and having the software set to high quality for all settings, I'm getting too many aborted tracks. How do I get over this problem when ripping thede CD's, change the settings, to what?
I'd uncheck "skip track extraction on read or synch errors" and rip to single .wav (image) + cue. After extraction EAC will show you where uncorrectable errors occured. You can listen to these suspicious positions and let EAC try to correct them if necessary, or correct them using a separate program, either manually (using e.g. CoolEditPro / Adobe Audition) or automatically (using e.g. deglitch). Later you can encode using e.g. foobar2000.
If you use a good naming scheme you can also rip to seperate wave files, encode after removing audible problems using some lame frontend and let some masstagger create tags from the file-/directorynames.
There are some ways how to treat the surface of scratched CDs to improve reading, e.g. using toothpaste. Using the search (e.g. "repair AND scratched CDs") you'll find some threads with more information.

I'm afraid you'll need a CD repair kit. When the CD is so badly scratched that EAC won't extract the track, there's not much you could do about it. You could try specifying a lower reading speed, though EAC by default speeds down when it encounters a problem (unless you've specified otherwise in the settings). If you don't use EAC's secure mode, you'll eventually be able to rip those tracks, but you'll have clicks in the resulting wav/mp3.
Try cleaning the CD with a soft towel. (you've probably already done that). If that doesn't work, give EAC a night to try and re-try. Since that probably won't work either, you should get a CD repair kit. (some people actually use the 'do-it-yourself' method with toothpaste. I don't recommend that though)

Hi,
If you have a plextor drive or access to one try that. I was trying myself with EAC on a scratched CD with no luck.
But with my plex and plextools it ripped without problem (just remember to set in the preferences settings for highest quality and to turn on error log)
worth a shot i reckon IMHO.
cheers
