in a lame VBR mp3, if I set -B 256, for example, how will the bit reservoir work in the 256 frames? Like in CBR?
JohnV
No.. VBR doesn't use bit reservoir. That's why you shouldn't limit it to 256kbps.

hmmm... I think u r wrong

from lame documentation (http://www.mp3dev.org/mp3/USAGE):

"(...) VBR modes minimize the use of the bit reservoir (...)"

I know that -B xxx isnt recommended, but in some cases its necessary (mp3 player compatibility). wink.gif

Eh, I know Lame document says it minimizes, and because of that you should consider it like it doesn't exist. VBR doesn't use bit reservoir like CBR.
