Cheers! Another huge 20Mb download biggrin.gif

I wonder what changes have been made to the aacenc32.dll? After a brief test it seems to give slightly larger filesizes.
MadXviD
Yeah, me too. I get like 1mb+ file sizes in transparent profile

I just started using Nero.
I've got the Nero 6 Ultra Edition.
Do I need all 4 update packages, or just package 1?
KAMiKAZOW
I'm using Nero 6.0.0.11 and it works quite well. The only reason I see to update is the updated AAC-DLL, but I'm only on dial-up.
It would be kind, if anybody could upload just the updated AAC-DLL(s) somewhere for poor dial-up users like me. smile.gif

If you just need a burning program, only #1. Gotta love how they try to make you download all three...

Yep...All I need is the burning program.

Hey, I find no significant difference in filesizes with NeroAAC Transparent preset between this and the previous version.
I daresay it would be against the rules to upload or link to the pure DLL, wouldn't it, mods?

Haven't they been posted before? I'd also rather not download a 20MB file for one dll.

it's now 12:41 CET and ftp.us.nero.com seems unavailable, anyone can confirm?

edit: nevermind, grabbed it from a mirror.

6.0.0.23 gives weird "buffer too large" errors and fails to write anything on my LTR-48125W (winxp's built-in CD burning support seems to work fine on the same machine).

Hi people,

If I understand correctly, it's illegal to distribute the "aacmp32.dll". But the "aacenc32.dll" file is legal, or isn't it??

Could a moderator please clarify the issue? (so that we can upload the DLL for dialup users)

Thanks.
krazy
It's included in a freely downloadable archive, so I'd guess that aacenc32.dll is freely distributable. ph34r.gif

Unless there is some legal technicality....?

Edit: What is the purpose of aacmp32.dll?

Winamp can be downloaded freely. But you can't distribute the plugins outside the installation package, like some programs do (read: CDex).

So, no, free download doesn't mean free distribution of it's parts.

Someone willing to read the license? Usually there is a clause forbidding the distribution of components independently.

It's a DLL that "tells" aacenc32.dll that it is a registered version, and therefore the shareware limitations are removed.

Do you need a previous Nero 6 installation in order to run the update?

This is my first take on version 6 (I was stuck with 5.x), I downloaded the 20+MB file (Package One). I tried to install it, got a message saying "a previous version is installed, keep the serial number" and clicked "OK". After a few seconds, a "[Installer Error] The configuration file was not found" message came up and the installation process stopped.

Any helpful tips?

It behaved just like a normal version for me. It somehow didn't even detect that i had the previous 6.x version installed and overwrote everything. Try to re-download, maybe your file is corrupt.

Strange that I don't have that file. I purchased the program on cd and am wondering if there is something else controlling the encoding of aac/mp4. Not sure exactly what it would be.

I just burned a 535mb disk and it went very smooth. It appears that the incorrect file order bug has been fixed. I only burned one data disk with it and it looked like the folders were being burned in alphabetical order. I may be incorrectly interpretting that it has been corrected. A better test would be to make a music compilation and see how it does that. (I think this is how it was originally discovered in 60015.)

I am pretty sure that you have to uninstall Nero 5.5 in order to install 6.0. If you visit Nero's site, there are some cleaning tools that will make sure that all the 5.5 files are removed.

Just don't forget to wirte down your serial for 5.5. It seems that some people do not like 6 as well as 5.5 and you may decide to go back to 5.5.

I understand that, but there's a difference (maybe not in a legal way, don't know): Winamp plugins work with programms other than Winamp.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but these DLLs do only work with Nero, right?
I allready have Nero, but I (and many other people) can't download 20MB.

Hey Ahead guys, why don't you just provide update packs in addition to full downloads? This way people like me don't have do download big files and you save bandwidth.

Officialy, neither Nero plugins or Winamp plugins work in other programs. Nullsoft didn't publish a plugin host SDK, neither did Ahead. (at least, AFAIK)

And, in both cases, software developers managed to reverse-engineer the linking system and create apps that talk directly to the plugins.

In winamp's case, there are countless playes that can use it's plugins. In Nero's case, there is nencode and, IIRC, there is a foobar plugin.

Anyway, even if it was true (I.E, if there was no other program using Nero's plugins), it still would have nothing to do with distribution. The only way to clarify that is reading the EULA.

I don't think that file is used in Nero 6 anymore. As there is no limit on the aac codec in Nero 6 (except for the 30 day trial period of Nero).

Great program, but why the 20mb download everytime ?.

I've only got dial-up for crying out loud.
Smaller patches if possible, please.

[Before I proceed, thank you xbenchman for that tip.]

So, I found the Clean tools, executed them and successfully uninstalled Nero 5.5.

Then I ran the Nero 6 installer, and 5 seconds before the end of the installation I got this prompt:
CODE
[Nero 6 Demo Installer]

An error occured during the copy process (file name: Nero\Uninstal\UNNero.cfg).
Error: 2
The system cannot find the file specified.

Please reboot your computer and retry.

The whole process then stops saying that an error happened, and I'm left without a working software.

Thinking that my 20MB download might have been corrupted, I re-downloaded it (yes, another 20MB, if I were on cable, that'd be OK, but I'm on 64kbps and these things take time), but I got the same error.

Anybody else had this problem? Any hints?

Nero Cleaning tool does have bad side-effects in some windows versions. They just have not tested it at winall (at Ahead) and it can delete some essential *.dll from System / System32 dir ... or mess up the registry - That's what happened to me (at XP Home version) !

I then removed the poor 6.x as good as i could and also all it's traces in registry by hands!

After that i installed latest v5.xx series back and did an upgrade install with my upgrade key !

Now everything went fine and no more messes with the uninstaller creation (as happened to you with Unnero.cfg that UnNero.exe uses for cleaning and as an info-file between updates at 6.0.0.xx to upper versions...!

I do not trust to those rude uninstallers made in 2 hours to clear all possible out of da system - the same has happened to me with my HaupPauge WinTV Software!

Thank you for your message, Mathias.

It seems I'll finally have to contact Ahead support directly, if I want my problem solved.

(By the way, I've gone back to Nero 5.5.9.9 for now.)

And You have not tried to "upgrade" from this point to v6.0.0.xx ..?

Or do you have a key just for a new installation
( i think it should work with upgrades too - correct me if i'm wrong...)

Sorry

Most times the Nero's "rude" uninstaller works fine if one does NOT have tens (or hundreds biggrin.gif ) other software installed, that binds audio / video codecs and those registry settings with many GUIDs to that (horrible) Directshow FourCC-codecs "cluster".

If someone does have the latest Kazaa Codecpack installed, there comes a nice app with it called "GSpot v2.21", that will load / validate / show us all the codecs and their bindings (View / Installed Codecs / Audio + Video and View / Codec Database / Audio + Video )

If looked in deep it really shows us much more information and what's most important it can show missing .ax & .dll files related to registry settings and vice versa : Found codecs missing correct information in registry ...

That is just one tool that i have used when having troubles with my many codecs / their settings in System Registry - sometimes one just have to throw away from System / System32 some *.ax or *.dll's to get all working again (but that needs some know-how in deeper means).

But in this particular "Nero Case" it is simple best to first install a working version of latest 5.5.9.9 (it will correct the mising entrys / dll's / ax's) and after that install the best suitable update version, which in this case is v6.0.0.9 (The later one(s) can then be installed over that one if success with 6.0.0.9 ...)

I think that upgrading from 5.5.9.9 directly to v6.0.0.19 (or 23) will nor work correctly, so it is "sad" if not have saved the earlier version(s) of the Ultra Edition!

Hi ZZZZZ,

I can only confirm your observation re Nero 6.0.0.23. Have had the same message popping up with my Yamaha CRW3200E. Downgraded Nero back to 6.0.0.19 and now all is fine.....
Work that one out.... huh.gif mad.gif must be a bug in the new release....

I have a BSOD at random launches of Nero 'Program tried to free a resource it did not own'
and
a minor annoyance when burning a DVD on a 2x compatible disk the time remaining is for a 4x disk .
Also I wish it kept the setting in the explorer ( sort by type, view as list )
All this is on WinXP with two ASUS devices one 52x CD burner and one 4x DVD-R burner.

Thanks for the kind offer; for the time being, I'm staying with v5.5.9.9 until a definite workaround is found; so, I'll leave the older versions aside (for now, at least).
