Full Version: Good 2.1 Speakers

I'm looking for some mid to highish end 2.1 speakers for my computer.

- Looking to spend Sterling £50-75 plus VAT, but may be persuaded to spend more.
- A headphone jack which disables output is very very important (that's what stopped me buying the Altec Lansing 2100's or VS4121's), but not 100% essential as the sound quality of the speakers takes precedence.
- Nice even bass and a reasonable range in the frequency response.
- Magnetically shielded is of course essential to protect the monitor.
- Not enormously fussed about how they look.

I found the Klipsch Promedia 2.1's (refurbished) for US$100, and these looked ideal, but they refuse to deliver to the UK, and the only place I found them in the UK was £200!!! (3+ times the price).

Any advice or recommendations gratefully received.

Cheers

Monsoon 1000 2.1 speakers

I have a set of these and would put them in the same "ballpark" as the Klipsch 2.1

There are other Monsoon (sonigistix) sets at this link:

The rest of the monsoon line.

I have no affiliation with this company, but I do love these speakers. Check around, I'm pretty sure there is a review or two somewhere at an audio or gaming site.

I'd reccommend the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 speakers. These are some great MM speakers, probably the best 2.1 MM PC set you'll find. I have a pair of PM4.1's and enjoy them greatly. They're usually 180 bucks, but someone at Head-Fi has them for 110!!

There's a problem with those, though...

...unless he'd be persuaded to spend more than three times his original target. I own the Klipsch's, too, and I love them. But if price and/or shipping is a dealbreaker, not much can be done about that.
Audible!
Monsoon Planar Media 9 or Planar Media 11 if you can afford it, which you should be able to (discontinued) wink.gif

The Logitech Z-340 might be around your price range, but it's more of a 'loud' solution than a 'high fidelity' solution. Good luck.

Maybe try eBay? I own a pair of Klipsch Promedia 2.1's and I honestly can't think of any better 2.1 system. Monsoons are good, but didn't that company go out of business? Or maybe you could try some Logitech speakers (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm?page=products/productlist&CRID=18&countryid=19&languageid=1).

No. They stopped making multimedia speakers.
Bongo yep
Well I havn't done hardly any comparrison tests of 2.1 speakers,I have Cambridge Soundworks Digital 2.1.
I find the cube like satelites to be very robust and tight speakers that sound much bigger than they look and the solid wood Sub producers a pleasent smooth bass.

They don't have A headphone jack which disables output but they are well within your price range.

Hi everybody, thank you for giving me the opportunity to post my first messege!

I own a set of Creative Megaworks 250Ds and they are fantastic speakers. The sound is very nice, especially after I changed the original speaker wires and digital input cable.

My set was bought off eBay for roughly 110 pounds with shipping. There are a couple of auctions with the speakers at the moment and you can probably get a reburbished set for just 80 pounds or so.

At £300 in 2001, this was a stunning product; at £100 in 2004, it’s even better. In this price range, nothing compares to the Aego2, which surpasses competition from the likes of Creative with ease.

Hard to get past the RULES!......need to be OBJECTIVE?.........audio comments are inevitably SUBJECTIVE. How do you propose to avoid terms like 'air, space, gritty etc'?
IMHO the Moderators have given this Forum a lot of leeway eg
