All the icons on my computer have gone, blank, just small white window icons. how do i re-build them ?
Florian
You can try TweakUI 1.33. To install it, right click on the tweakui.inf and select Install.

To repair your icons go to the control panel and select Tweak UI, Repair, Rebuild Icons.

Hope that helps!

@ TwoJ - I didn't, it just started up like that today ??? biggrin.gif

I have noticed that its only the Microsoft Office icons which have gone funny, eg. .doc, .xls, the icon for the office programs etc.

I don't think TweakUI 1.33 will help with those icons. Any other solutions ???

You can also rebuild them manually via Explorer, Tools, Folder Options, File Types, %_filename_ext%, Advanced, Change Icon.

it cant find wordicon.exe ???

i think i should try using the repair function of the office cd smile.gif

Office apps launch from stupid little things from the Windows Installer. The actual things being launched are in the \windows\Installer\{nasty-GUID}\ folder somewhere. I usually just delete those icons and remake them using the actual EXE files file in the \Program Files\Office\ folder. Haven't noticed anything different by not using the Windows Installer EXEs to launch.

you can also try deleting the file "ShellIconCache" in C:\WINNT\ for win2k/xp and restart.

I've fixed a few icons TweakUI wouldn't fix with Microangelo. After installing, start On Display, go to the Advanced tab and click Rebuild System Cache or Remove Damaged Cache.

Rebuilding icons is as simple as deleting "shelliconcache" from yours windows directory, as previously stated in this thread. I do this on the odd occurrance that my icons go KAPUT and stay god damn 256 colours.
