What do you guys think of the mtv leak service that lets you stream cds nearly every week before they hit the street?
frozenspeed
I don't know anything about this new service from them but I am curious, what kind of selection do they have to offer from this service? Isn't MTV in contr5act w/ Vivendi & Bertelsmann & Sony for a certian amount of exposure for their featured artists? I'd like to know what kind of genre variety you would have on this.

its just a stream thing mtv lets you access every week on a new cd. usually its from within the pop culture. Quality is tied in with Real networks.. ....thats just about all i know about it
oh yeah and there are sites that show background info on the cd

i don't have realplayer and i'm not interested in downloading this bulky piece of shit. i have the streamlined windows media player 6.4 yet i can't play anything on the leak because mtv probably signed some kind of marketing agreement with realnetworks. unless you have realplayer you can't play anything over there. so, while i want to listen to some of the songs there, i can't do it atm. so screw mtv the leak.

I don't think that the CDs there match my kind of musical taste, but despite that MTV's hijacking the term "leak". For good reasons, maybe. Maybe in order to prevent the spread of this word among music-loving internet users.

Originally meaning, "leaked" releases are mostly promo copies or factory/studio originals of to-be-published-in-the-near-future albums or movies. These illegal albums usually spread with the help of peer-to-peer networks. "Leaks" aren't new, but became popular with the growth of established p2p networks. The main source of "leaks" are generally journalists who (used to) get a promo copy as a cd or dvd, and of course cd/dvd-factory employees and studio personal. This little info is jsut for those who are unfamiliar with this term...

So in my opinion MTV - the leak has nothing to do with "leaked" albums, because: it's not illegal (!), the quality is poor and it has a purpose of giving the record company the possibility to make a market research for whatever reason, to see how many copies should be made, maybe.

And according to MTV...

WHAT IS THE LEAK?
It's a free streaming audio preview of this new release. Just click 'Listen to Entire Album' or a specific song title to start listening.

That's a fukcing lie! mad.gif Well ok, it says "What is the leak?". But it's intentionally misleading, for sure. :x

Well, what do I think about it, despite the stupid and misleading name? Well, actually I don't care, but I don't care much about MTV in general, so.

Btw, @outscape: It works fine for me, and I'm using media player classic 6.4.6.8 + the realalternative 1.21 suite.
