The tracks can only be copied to Sony portable music players, and played on a PC using Sony's own software

Funny... if the audio session was not readable, this would be very annoying : a CD that only plays on Sony CD Players laugh.gif

Users will accept those limits, it hopes, because of the extra content web links built into the PC session provide.

Who wants to buy advertisements ?? The only extra that I found interesting in a CD were video clips : One-T and Cool-T - The Magic Key single ; Gothica - The Cliff of Suicide...

>>> Sony has used a similar approach in a number of releases over the past few years, but in the past has not included 'PC friendly' files alongside the CD Audio tracks.

So, this is nothing new in copy-protection technology, I guess. They're just offering low-bitrate ATRAC or MP3 files on the disc for the first time. Oooh...what a choice. No thanks. Corrupt discs are still extractable most often, and if there is a "copy-protected" message like they promise, that's when the need for archival would come into effect.

>>> Sony's latest system is not without restrictions, however. The tracks can only be copied to Sony portable music players, and played on a PC using Sony's own software - a problem for users of platforms not supported by Sony. The company promises to offer plug-ins for popular music apps early next year.

Sony is following the monopolistic methods of Microsoft??? "Our new product will only work with our other products, and not with other brands." That's anti-trust activity. So these CDs will not be for the general public, but rather "music for existing Sony customers". How many music artists are going to want their work released under that pretense?

Well, If the article is accurate and Sony is really implementing those smart tricks to force the sale of its own devices; this will be one more reason to keep my money away from anything holding the Sony logo.

I guess they won't have the choice.
