hello all,

for my xmas present this year i am looking for a nice set of Gaming headphones for my pc, my soundcard is the soundstorm built in on my NF7-S. i do have an amp but i dont know if it is a particualry good amp, the only model nuimber i could find on it was Technics SU-800

for the heaphones i was looking at the Senn HD570s because primarily ive heard that senn make nice headphones, so i have two qs

1.) what do ppl reccomend for a nice set of gaming heaphones and for music in the style of the strokes, for around £70

2.) have people heard of the technics SU-800 amp and is it suitable for headphone amplification if i need it?

thanks for every1s time

ok, i have now found a couple of good reviews about the senn HD 280 pros and im likeing them as well...

which are better for games,

the hd570, or the HD280 pros

The HD280's are closed while the HD570's are open to the outside world.
The 570's probably weigh a bit less and you might well find them more comfortable.

I'd recommend you listen to them before you choose one to buy, as taste in headphones varies considerably.
They will both work fine for gaming, as will a variety of less expensive headphones.

The Sennheiser 497s (or 495 if you can find them) as well as the GradoSR60 may be more to your liking as they are somewhat less expensive and efficient enough to not require additional amplification.

The Technics SU-800 appears to be an integrated amp, but I know nothing of the headphone output quality.

The Sennheiser 497s

I can't really recommend those. They have been very uncomfortable to myself, as well as for other people. If you wear glasses or your ear size doen't match what Sennheiser engineers had in mind, wearing them for long periods of time is going to be painful.

Choosing hd570 or hd 280 pro basically comes down to whether you prefer an open or a closed design. The first will let your hear what's going on outside, the latter won't. Also, hd280 pro are going to clamp your head more tightly. Finally, hd280pro have a lower impedance compared to hd570, so the former may be easier to drive.

Regarding sound quality, you probably won't notice any difference in games.

On a side note, buying $100 headphones just for games does seem to be a bit of an overkill smile.gif

Basically a reciever without a tuner - or alternatively, a block amp with a built-in preamp.

I've heard similar complaints with the HD280 as well as the GradoSR's, which is why I suggested auditioning first.
The advantage of the 497's (and SR60's) is the output quality for what you pay.

oh right,

i think im gunna go listen to the HD570s, HD280 pros and the grado sr60 and see which i prefer

thanks for everyones help, im gunna try using the headphones straight off the mobo soundcard first and if i cant get hogh volumes ill use the SU-800 amp and see waht the heaphone qualitys like

thanks again

Ok, if you gonna listen to Grado's i suppose you to put on Philips HP-890. It is worth listening.
