So I tagged my newly ripped monkey's audio files but now when I try to decompress them the crc doesn't match so I get errors that they are invalid. I used foobar to tag the files using ape tags. How do I tag my .ape music files without causing them to have invalid crc checks ?

WFM, I think there most be something wrong with your setup (could be bad RAM or a bad drive) because tagging the files doesn't render them invalid on my machine.

Can you play them in foobar? if so you could use the diskwriter to write to undithered 16bit waves.

Your files aren't "invalid" or "corrupted", retagging them obviously needs to modify the files, so CRCs don't match anymore.

I can still play them but it would be nice if somehow the crc is updated when you tag files. Otherwise the act of tagging will cause all my files to have invalid crc. It's like you have to never tag your .ape files or not be able to make use of the crc checks since they will always be invalid? Seems strange that they support their own tagging format yet tagging them messes up one of its other features (crc). So do I have to never tag my .ape files if I want the crc to be valid ?
