I'd like to read some experience reports on this new device...

Compared to other harddisc players...

The price seems to be _really_ nice.

This site has some user reviews that they linked to their forums.

The Karma is a definite contender for the iPod, and I think its features outweigh its detractors, especially for audiophiles.

Well, impatiently waiting for availability in old Europe... B)

You could try ordering it from a US store that ships internationally, like e.g. Provantage (Karma, international orders).

I haven't tried this yet, but I'm waiting for the 40GB edition anyway. B)

Edit: What a coincidence: I just noticed in the Riovolution forums that somebody from the UK (MrBester) has ordered one with Provantage. Check out this thread:

It may be interesting to see how it works out.

I thought the 40 gig version is "on hold" and may never come out?

But yeah wolffsed, the Karma and the Zen series seem the price leaders at the moment. The iPod and iHP-100/150 are nice, but the price moves north.

I was very interested in Karma, but after seeing the final product -- not really. It's too phat to keep in the pocket.

(Is this a Karma in your pocket or are you just glad to see me?)

Incidently, regarding 40GB -- I saw the announcement from Toshiba, they have a single platter 40GB 1'8" drive, claim it will be really inexpensive. The 40GB drive used by iPod is a double platter. Expect to see a flood of 40GB 1'8" players in the near future ...

It's quite amazing how hard drive media density is going up and up and up ... May be I should wait till the next jump -- to 80GB, single platter.

If it's too pretty hot and tempting for you, that's your problem.

I got a question WHERE did I see the news on Toshiba announcing 40GB 1'8" drive.
it is in theinquirer.net.

http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=12656

but if you search on

MK4004GAH (drive model),

you'll get more hits. The only one german site specifically mentions that this is a single-platter drive.

Strange, according to someone I heard from, his Rio Karma was smaller than an iRiver. And that's why he decided on it.

The iRiver is much, much thinner, and less wide, too...however the Karma is quite a bit shorter and may seem smaller because of that.

I just bought an iRiver iHP-120, and I'm thinking about returning it and getting a Karma instead...
