I know that the Karma, IHP-120 and Zen all play wma files, but does anyone know if this includes wma lossless?

The reason I ask is that my DVD player a Panasonic RP-82 can play lossy wma files but cannot play wma lossless.

I've decided for ease of use to go with wma lossless and would like a player that utilizes this format.

AFAIK, no portable in the world yet plays WMA lossless.
All those I've seen that advertise WMA compatibility do not mean WMA Pro or WMA lossless compatibility.

FWIW, karma DOES play FLAC...

Has there been any change in the year and a half since this thread was started? I'm planning to buy a portable player soon and I'm hoping to be able to get one that'll be compatible with MusicGiants (if they ever launch in Europe). I'm also hoping that some company will decide to offer a subscription service with lossless downloads.

I'm tempted by the gorgeousness of an iPod, of course, but while Apple could start selling Apple Lossless downloads, they don't have the DRM infrastructure in current iPods to be able to do a subscription service AFAIK. Perhaps it would be possible with firmware upgrades.

If they sell lossless downloads you could just burn it and reimport into another format.

I hadn't thought of that. It's a nice idea, but it does negate some of the convenience of buying online.

Pocket PCs and Smartphones (Windows Mobile) can play WMA Lossless (and WMA Professional).
