sorry but can somebody please explain to me why I should compile lame myself like some people do on their machines and not used a pre compiled one?
in a windows enviroment.

Not only are there no benefits, but unless you are willing to spend a significant amount of time on your compiler setup, then you will probably end up with a bigger, slower LAME.

I haven't compiled Lame, but you may get some speed increase if your compiler options are stet up to optimize your processor, like P4 instead of generic pentium.

The processor optimisations are taken care of in 'nasm' code. Adding processor specific compiler optimisatons makes little, or no difference in the case of LAME.

i use my own vc++ 2003 compiled 3.93.1. it is a very little slower than the 3.93.1 from rarewares, but it generates smaller files, and it is smaller.
