I do apoligize in advance. I know there is alot of talk on this topic going on, but frankly, in comparrison to everyone else I am a neophyte, and it is easy to be confused after reading through this site.
Soon I will be implementing a whole house soundsystem with the core being a SliMP3 server (slimdevices.com). I need to transfer all my CD's to MP3 at archivial quality.
I have:
EAC 0.95B3
Lame 3.90.3
Sony CRX215E1
I have used EAC auto detect feature and the drive opti0ons are configured as follows:
Secure Mode (all three options checked)
I set compression for 320kbps CBR
What are ther settings I should be concerned with?
Thank you

If you really think MP3 is the format of choice and want 320 kbps cbr, the --alt-preset insane should be slightly better than the regular 320 kbps cbr setting.

You can save a lot of disk space by using --alt-preset standard, instead of insane. My bet is that you will never hear any difference, not many people do.

The reason I'm choosing MP3 over any other is simply the support for the server software I'll be using to pipe the streams throughout the house and internet. It natively supports only MP3 and uncompressed audio. Uncompressed would be great, except for bandwidth concerns.
Just for completeness, there was
another thread about the Squeezebox recently. Flac support was mentioned there as well for the near future.
