though I realy second the the wish that they would upload some patches, instead of let-your-modem-work-untill-it's-dead-downloads...
What's new at this time? I guess AAC streaming profile is tuned at least.
Wow! Nero AAC Codec 2.5.9.7

Why isnt the encoder made available seperately? its a pain for me to download the 20 mb file just for the encoder

They seem to have fixed my old problem - "buffer too large" error with my liteon CDRW drive, but I've found a new one (no idea if it's new in .28 or not) - burning a few small files on a CDRW (haven't tried with CDR) crashes in MMC.dll; 100% reproduceable.

Same thing for me.
2.5.9.7 always crashes on my notebook (SP1 + Nero 5.5 series), but not with my desktop PC (SP1 + Nero 6). It concerns foobar2000 (0.74 & 0.75b1), and the small drag & drop application for nero AAC.

You would have to find all instances of NeroIPP.dll and delete all of them except the latest one which should be in a folder specified in registry key:
HKLM\Software\Ahead\Shared - String Value called "Lib"
This is because AACEnc32.dll is using delay loading (late DLL linking) of NeroIPP.dll, and if kernel finds older version without some IPP function, it will still load it ( #@&*^!& MS) without any error message - but when code requests particular IPP function, it will just crash.
I'm going to put some version-checking code in the next version in order to ensure that proper NeroIPP.dll version in loaded.

My Nero.exe shows that the version is 6.0.0.28.
6.0.0.28 != 6.0.0.28b ?
And now I've got a nice crash when using foo_burninate ( + unusable CDR disc, and had to reboot the machine go get the burner to respond again).
Can we please have the AAC encoder available separately somehow ? I keep latest Nero6 only for AAC encoding, I want to revert to "old good" Nero5 for regular burning.

I still use 5.5.10.54 for burning ... and when I see the changelogs (are they actually getting longer from version to version ?

) I am glad about that ...
It seems that it will take at least half a year until Ahead sorted out all the issues with Nero 6 ... for the time being, anyone will be fine with the latest 5.5 build.
It would be a nice idea to sell the AAC encoder separately (maybe with a nice frontend) for those who just like the encoder ...

I'm not 100% sure, since I did not redownload it, but the nero60028.exe file that is on nero's ftp servers right now has the same file size, date, time compared to the one I downloaded 3 days ago.

Thank you Ivan. I found 5 other instances of that file with varying dates and sizes. Hopefully this will resolve that issue.

An interesting hint (dunno if it's already been mentioned here):
If you want to load Nero only to use the encode interface, go straight to it using this command line:
nero.exe /Dialog:EncodeFiles
This way you can prevent the entire interface from loading, and don't need to use StartSmart.
You can also create an icon with this parameter for quick loading of the encoding interface.

Roberto.

Nero is the only program that makes my screen turn Blue
Random BSOD's since version 6 happen all the time maybe it is the combination of CD recorder & DVD recorder on the same machine ? I do not know.
And still Nero does not remember the setting for the file explorer damn it I want to sort by type and I like list view
and they should remove the ripper/encoder from the main burning app.
jtclipper: Once i found program that can change those message colors at least W9x. Red background with black font is killer...

BSOD = RSOD.
