Is there a preference for WinABX or PCABX for doing ABX testing? I am intending to proove that my beliefs about what I can hear in music are wrong.

Cheers,

Did you take the ABX module in Foobar 2000 into consideration as well?
It's very easy to use, no hassle at all.

No I hadn't I'll try it out when I get home from work!

Thanks,

I prefer WinABX over PC-ABX as you can adjust the playback range, and I like the interface better overall. (Setting a playback range of audio samples wasn't possible with the version of PC-ABX I tried several months ago...haven't tried it recently if a newer version is out.) WinABX is quick and easy...I keep a shortcut to it on the left-column of my Start menu in XP so it's always "at my side".

I've never tried foobar2000's ABX tool, but I hear a lot of people say they like it.

ABC/HR is a nice app as well, and it provides a method of subjective rating as well as ABX testing. But if you don't need or care about the subjective rating scale, then either fb2k or WinABX would be a better choice.

imho a perfect tool would have to do track replaygain (foobar abx component does that) and also perform some sort of autosync of the similar signals (none does this automagically afaik).

If by "autosync" you mean offset correction, abchr/java does this. It also corrects the volume automatically.

ABC/HR Java is such a wonderful tool...

Thanks again for it, schnofler smile.gif

I'm a big fan of the Foobar ABX tool myself. For me, the only thing missing is an automated loop function so I can listen to something repeatedly without constantly clicking.

You're welcome! smile.gif
BTW, I'm planning on getting a new version ready before your new batch of listening tests start in January.
So, if anyone's missing some feature in the current blind testing programs, now would be a good time to ask.

Since you've asked: Support for 24bit/96kHz files. I'm pretty sure every ABX tool developer knows already if his program has problems with it or not, but mentioning again just in case won't hurt. smile.gif

Yes, I know about these problems. But that won't change until Sun start supporting it in their API or any other nice cross-platform sound API for Java becomes available (btw, there's a chance it might work under Linux by using Tritonus, an alternative implementation of the Java Sound API, but I can't test this, as I don't have a Linux PC available).

Thanks Dudes for the merry enlightenment.
