Hi,
Does anyone know if iPOD for Mac and iPOD for Windows are the same machine or are they entirely separate units.
Thanks,

Exactly the same thing. You take any iPod and format it with a windows (fat32) filesystem or a Mac(HFS+ ?I think) filesystem. You can go back and forth reformatting between the two, even, if you had a reason to.

gonzotek is correct. the mac and pc versions of the iPod are identical. in my experience, the best way to achieve maximum compatibilty between a mac and pc without having to reformat, is to format the iPod's hard disk initially using the fat32 file system. the mac understands the fat32 file system whereas the pc will not understand the hfs+ filesystem.
hope this helps
