Is there a way to always run LAME in a lower priority level? When I am encoding things, my system is almost useless until I lower the priority level manualy with the task manager. Is there some sort of switch to make LAME run itself at a different priority level or is there some 3rd party solution? Thanks.

Use "start /low lame <parameters...>".

there is a priority switch in lame.

"lame --priority 4" sets priority on high.
"lame --priority 2" sets priority on low.

I don't think these switches are available except alphas.

IIRC, they are only available within OS2.

Yes I know. But this doesn't work in Monkey's Audio, or any other such programs that only let you input the switches after lame.exe.

It sure would be nice if they were hacked to work for Windows. I can't imagine it being too hard for someone who knows what they are doing (unlike me). smile.gif

from memory CDex supports priority seting on Lame.

At least 3.94Alpha and 4.00pre-alpha supports it on MS-Windows.
(because I added)

Done. wink.gif

There are new ICL4.5 compiles of 3.90.3 Modified and 3.90.3 APE Modified now available at Rarewares.

The new Priority Option is:
CODE
MS-Windows-specific options:
--priority <type>     sets the process priority:
                              0,1 = Low priority (IDLE_PRIORITY_CLASS)
                              2 = normal priority (NORMAL_PRIORITY_CLASS, default)
                              3,4 = High priority (HIGH_PRIORITY_CLASS))
Note: Calling '--priority' without a parameter will select priority 0.
