I've been lurking in the forums for a while and couldn't find the answer to this question. I'm a newbie and appreciate your patience in case I've overlooked something in the forums.

I encode Vorbis files with CDex 1.51 and GT3b2 dlls from Rarewares, released on 12/8/2003.

I listen to those files with Winamp 2.91 with the in_vorbis.dll plugin v.1.35 built on 6/15/2003 (according to 'About' window). It's presumably built on Vorbis 1.0, since Vorbis 1.0.1 didn't come out until 11/20/2003 (posted date on Rarewares).

Since the input (decoder) plugin (based on Vorbis 1.0) is older than the most recent version of the encoder plugin (based on GT3b2), am I missing out on the improvements made to Vorbis since 6/15/2003? Should I get a newer version of the Winamp plugin? Is a newer version of the Winamp plugin based on GT3b2 even available? If so, where? If not, is there another media player program with a Vorbis plugin based on GT3b2 which would be better to listen to Vorbis files with?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Using a decoder based on 1.0 libs will make no difference to the output sound quality whatsoever. wink.gif

no you don't need the new version of winamp plugin because the decoder will always decode the same. the changes in new version of Vorbis are just some tunings in the way of encoding audio. decoding is always the same.

AFAIK Peter based the 1.35 not on the 1.0 code, but a Post-1.0 CVS code.
