Hi, I know this is a stupid question but I did search the forum for this and didnt see what i needed.

I have a live concert DVD (Pearl Jam Live At The Garden) and i want to rip the tracks so i can have them in winamp.

So after some reading on doom9 i found that DVD Decrypter is the tool to use.

I used IFO mode, selected the chapter i wanted, went to stream processing, selected LPCM / 2ch and used demux. That gives me a wav file in 48kHz.

This brings me to my main question; now that i have the wav i want to encode to mp3 with LAME 3.90.3 -aps , but the wav file is in 48kHz ... it does work and the mp3 plays but is this ok quality wise?

CDs are 41kHz, all my mps are 41 and i dont know if the alt preset is designed to work with 48.

So i assume i should downsample it to 41 using maybe BeSweet?

Also if anyone knows DVD Decrypter, Should i be using IFO mode? and when i do a track at a time it makes a new IFO file along with the wav and i assume i can overwrite the old IFO file?

Ok thats enough stupid questions for now laugh.gif thanks for any help or advice

Edit - Oops i meant to put this in MP3 General not MPC =\ sorry

You can leave it at 48 and save yourself 1 db of noise that will be added if you downsample.

But the file will not be useable on a cd unless you change it to 44.

DVD Decryptor has a demux stream feature so getting just the audio should be easy in IFO mode.

Not sure if BeSweet will just downsample alone. If not, look up SSRC Gui on google and use this tool. It is quite well regarded and is free.

Hope this helps.... BK

Edit - Lame supports 48K so there is no problem there.

If you really want 44.1khz then it's probably best to use Besweet and it's frontend. I think the easiest way is to choose the DSPguru_44.1Khz_MP3@128kbps preset. Then go to the Lame1 tab and choose alt-preset standard.

Good luck!

yeah just use DVD Decrypter to demux the original 48KHz .wav from the dvd and encode it as is in Lame or whatever.

Ok, so the alt presets (3.90.3) are designed to work with 48kHz wavs, thats perfect because i am not going to be burning cds, just mp3s in winamp/foobar.

Great!

48kHz should be better sound quality technically? not that im any audiophile, got a cheap sound blaster live value card but some decent klipsch promedia 4.1 computer speakers.

Thanks kennedyb4

Edit- also thanks to the other people that responded and to the mod who moved this to the correct section..

I've been coming to these forums for a while and i think its a great community, the best audio resource i've found on the web, great job to the guys who run it!

If you are not interested in AudioCD playback, you should leave the files as they are, since every additional processing step will add noise/artifacts. The --alt-presets were not specially tuned for 48khz but should support them flawlessly.

A sb live! is better at outputting 48khz than 44.1khz because it's native output is 48khz.

44.1khz will always be resampled to 48khz by the sb live!, and unfortunately it's resampling is not that good quality.

Sorry. I should follow my own advise.

hehe i guess it turns out leaving them at 48 is better in all respects, thanks smile.gif

IIRC, LAME is capable of encoding to and from 48 khz, but it is not specifically tuned for it. The --alt-presets are only tuned at tested at 44.1 khz
