Like the topic title says, can anyone recommend a nice, free web based email? TIA
TwoJ
Personally I still think Hotmail or Yahoo are still on top for most things, hotmail is more restrictive than yahoo but both have been around for a long time and are probably the most common web based email service.

Also you can use hotmail popper & yahoopops to use them as a normal pop3 email account.

that is my recommendation as well, signed up with their $20 (USD)/year plan when I was having some issues with the hosting company I was using before and needed something reliable.

I hate it when this happens even on the off-topic stuff...

Try searching for "free email" in the off-topic forum.

I did not like hotmail at all. Even with their spam filter on a severe setting I was getting maybe 20 spams a day even though I never posted or gave the address to anyone.

My best free email is a curtesy account that my college gives to alumni, and I know a lot of other schools do the same. I can get the messages by web, pop, or autoforward.

I use www.myrealbox.com; it's free, 10 MB of space, offers access via webmail or IMAP.

I found out about myrealbox from http://emailaddresses.com, which offers a great list of email providers.

Edit: It seems as of Dec. 11, 2003, myrealbox is no longer accepting new signups...hopefully a replacement can be found at the address above.

Thanks for recommendations and I'm really sorry for not using the search, I was tired and I forgot...

Use fastmail they are reliable and won't disappear like alot of email providers...
sramov
OK, I will try fastmail. I have one question:

In free mode, they offer IMAP support, so, I can check email with email client, but, i'm wondering, can I send email with email client too, or just receive? They don't offer SMTP in free option (reasonable).

Yep, I signed, and it's wonderful. IMAP is great, speed is great, feeling is great, everything. FastMail is amazing.
