All:

I have a PC based front-end in my system, and although it's pretty quiet, I have one HD in there with my OS on it (XP), and it is LOUD. Makes the entire machine too loud.

Is there a way to turn on power management for just ONE drive, and not the better, quiet ones?

Thanks!

You should've installed XP on the quiet drive. XP is going to be using this loud drive of yours continuously so you can't get power management to shut it off.

Anyway, you should try to have your swap file on another drive, or install enough ram to be able to turn swap off tongue.gif Even though swap access won't be done on drive C:, maybe your other apps are still going to write to it continuously. (temp files, config files, etc)

I have a pretty new Samsung HDD (I can't remember the exact numeral ID), and I can use one Samsung utility to have the HDD operate in silent mode. This, of course, slows down the HDD, but is said to be more quiet ... I have not tried it yet though. Maybe some other brands also provide such a utility. If you need the Samsung one (only fo Samsung drives!), search their homepage, and if you have no luck there, feel free to ask me. wink.gif

doesn't matter how much ram you put in, turning off the pagefile is a dumb idea. From hurting performance, to making some apps simply refuse to function, there are several reasons you shouldn't do this.

If you have an Intel-based motherboard, the Intel Application Accelerator can change the acoustic management mode, if the hard disk supports it (which most of them do).
