For those using braindead, what kind of bitrates are you getting?
SometimesWarrior
Probably the same kind of bitrates you'd get if you simply encoded some songs as --braindead. I've heard it's 250-280kbps... but don't take my word for it, try it yourself!

Please post to the proper forum (I moved this thread to MPC general). It's also recommeded to use a subject which also describes which format is in question, although in this case it's pretty obvious.

Thanks.

--braindead --minval 2 gives me an avg of 275 kbps over an album. Nothing less than 250 kbps and nothing over or equal to 300 (so far biggrin.gif)

Looking at these bitrates braindead seems overkill to me. But again its best if you want to transcode.

Straight braindead with no modifiers gets me an average of around 256 for a full album (according to MPEG Audio Collection), perhaps slightly less. I've quite frequently seen as low as 200, or even lower depending on the song. I've taken to splicing up the hidden tracks into separate files, so the 150Kbps or so I occasionally saw isn't really valid for me anymore as it encoded large chunks of silence in a 15 minute track. I'm running braindead with the --xlevel switch and I figure things should be pretty good no matter what happens down the road.

If SV8 includes some big bitrate efficiency changes I'll consider re-encoding then, but in the meantime I'm set for whatever I might want to do.
