Full Version: CD Player that supports AAC, instead of just mp3?

Some of the older Philips Expaniums supported AAC, but is there a difference between what it can decode and todays tech with AAC(HE/SBR techs for example)? Does anyone know of any company that manufactures a CD Player with AAC decoding capabilities?

This is my bottleneck with commiting to mp4/aac, which just sprung another question to mind. If someone does have the answer to some company that provides this type player, would the AAC stream have to be stripped from mp4 container to be compatible(remember it would need to be a CD player version, not HD based)?

I wish I had the money and knowledge to do similar to how IRivers player are, but actually would take care of biz by updating the firmware with newer codecs. The hardware industry has been slacking here for abit now. With so many of these players being able to be upgraded, just doesn't make sense to me. Hell I would even pay for addon codecs.

Unfortunately, there is no portable support for High Efficiency AAC, yet. Also, the Philips CD-players play raw AAC files, where the iPod plays MP4. So if you want an AAC CD-player, AFAIK your only option is to buy a Philips player and burn stripped AACs.

Thanks for reply.

Yea, hardware support is really pissing me off. Anyway, the clock keeps ticking; I guess. Maybe one day these companies will get on the ball.

Waiting on the APEX of portable audio players... sad.gif
