I'm looking for a good freeware system registry cleaner for Windows XP.

It must:
* Be able to make undo files.
* Feature a strong cleaner.
* Absolutely must not contain spyware, or ad software bundled with it!

I don't know if anyone else has, or had noticed but the last "freeware" version of jv16 PowerTools will time-out once it reaches a certain age, which was today, and once that happens it will no longer load without displaying an update message. Not that it worked that great with WinXP anyway, so it isn't a big loss to me.

Perhaps not a strong cleaner, but Microsoft's Regclean contains no spyware and has undo files.

RegCleaner by Jouni Vuorio. A bit hard to find tool but very good.

Microsoft's RegClean for Win9x systems cannot remove the keys it finds in WinXP systems. This I have confirmed weeks ago by running it approximately half a dozen times only to find out it finds exactly the same thing, while the "invalid" keys are still in the registry.

RegCleaner is from the author of jv16 PowerTools, and it doesn't properly work with WinXP. When it scans a certain section of the registry in WinXP Pro it produces a crash and memory error.

Any other suggestions?

I downloaded it immediately after following the link you provided, and what a surprise in such a small download! Thank you for sharing this information!

It has some very nice functions that I've been completely missing from not having a TweakUI equivelant on WinXP Pro like rebuilding the icon cache, etc. It even found invalid redundant keys that other registry cleaners totally missed or ignored.
