18 Audiobooks - one voice is reading one of my favorites books smile.gif.
So i want these collection on one single 700mb CD-R. Is there a possibilty to have good results
and small (around 38mb) Filesize ? Usually i take ogg for audiobooks @ 112kbit and i get a filesize around
50 mb - to high for this job sad.gif.

btw: is this the right forum ?
JohnV
I moved this to the general forum.

Hmm, ogg@ 112kbps.. are you using -b switch? If you are using Ogg, try -q0 or -q1 for audiobooks.

If you want MP3, try Cooledit 2 Pro's vbr MP3pro or just its FhG MP3.

I have a much similiar question, I have several files that I would like to achieve the maximum compression on. These files, much like audiobooks, consist primarily of voice. One of these files is approx 16,000 kb in size. What are your suggestions? Thanks Jeff

If it's just voice, then quality really won't make a big difference (unless there is a large amount of artificats that show up on high volumes). So just run the -q switch for ogg at 0 or 1 like JohnV said. Should compress the stuff right up.

Or use like a 64Kbps VBR mp3.

OGG to CD Audio??? How can this be done so that files can be played on a standard audio player? Thanks Jeff

Convert all the files to wav and use your favorite cd burning software to write the cd. Conversion can be easily done with Winamp using diskwriter output plugin. Remember to disable EQ and DSP plugins.

I'm a little confused here, but what good is compressing these files to fit on a disk if you have to convert them back to wav to put them on cd's?

They only need to be converted to wav to burn audio cd. They are still usable with computers when they are compressed.

And, why bother compressing them at all if your sole intention is to put them on audio cd? Now, my next question if I may ask it here is on resolution. I would like to achieve maxium resolution. Any ideas on achieving maxium resolution would be appreciated. Thanks Jeff

There is no reason to bother. But that's not what the poster's intent was. He just wanted to put ogg's on data CD's. By the way, I'm sure AAC might do the trick for the audio books, too. Where's rjamorim to point this out? wink.gif

What resolution are you talking about? Please rephrase your question.

Hi,
yes i want to put it on Data CD smile.gif

@ JohnV: i use VBR 112kbit (Preview RC4)- i forgot to mentioned it, sorry

i will test -q0 / 1 today, but i read that ogg is not "optimized" for low bitrate, developer will do this in RC4

also i read in Doom9 something about Speex , designed for "voice-only"
does anyone know something about it / test it ?

And what about AAC ? isn't it build for i-net streams or optimized for low bitrate ? which switch could help ? Lame VBR mp3's (and CBR 64kbits too) sounds very bad to me.

So many Questions rolleyes.gif , but in every Forum here you diskuss "archive" - quality sad.gif

thx for your reply !

Yeah, RC4 will be better (there isn't lowbitrate optimizations yet in the latest pre-RC4s implemented AFAIK). But -q0 -q1 should be perfectly good for audio books.

If there are only speech in the audiobooks, then this might be good. Haven't tested it.

Try what do you think about latest Psytel AAC with low bitrate presets (-internet, -radio, -tape) and use LTP AAC profile: -profile 2.

AAC -internet or -streaming -> good results, i read in the pdf something about "-pns" an option for low-bitrate.. How does it work and is it good ? And what about the "Human Speech Optimazation" the pdf mentioned ?

Ogg sounds also very good to me @ -q 1.99 and has a smaller Filesize, but aac sounds more "natural"

mmm, hard to deside which i should take.... :needhelp:

It is good, but it's usually intended for bitrates <64kbps.

This one is intended for high bitrates only. tongue.gif
(Using with -extreme or -archive...)
