Hey there. I'm after some earphones to replace the nice Sony ones I lost. Quality at a volume that won't let me hear the outside world is what I'm after.

Can anyone recommend some that they've bought recently? Maybe some good manufacturers? I know sennheiser make good headphones. I'm looking to spend around £20 really.

Many thanks

Well I'd recommend my Sennheiser HD-590 (w00t they sound great) but I think they are too expensive.

The only headphones I had in your pricerange would be the Microsoft Sidewinder Gamevoice phones. And they are really bad. Uncompfortable, don't sound good and they are incredible sensible. I wrecked one earpad after a few weeks.
So I recommend you NOT to buy these headphones. That's the only advice I could give you, sorry.

Greets,

Hmmm... Earphones? Or headphones?

I'd say that cheap Sennheiser MX400 would replace Sony (if they were earbuds).

hmm, do sound like you want some noice-canceling kind of stuff, or do I get it wrong? anyway, if your'e looking at something for 20 bucks, there's just not thaaat much quality to have I guess...
I myself got the sennheiser px200, they are real good (for their price): pretty light weight, quite comfortable (with my ears), good bass, outside world - what's that? cool.gif
but then again, they are normaly around 50 to 60 €... what is already darn chaep for some headphone maniacs out there tongue.gif

so if you realy looking into some low-budget stuff, the only thing I can suggest is maybe looking here and find some answers...

Yea I want specifically earphones heh. Well something portable at least. I had a look at some Sennheiser MX500s or PMX 60s.

My old set were a pair of expensive (well.. £17) Sony earphones. I'm not familliar with the term "earbud", but they were the same designed as the pre-packaged trash you get with portable devices. They just sounded very very nice.

But my house appears to have eaten them.

Anyway.. are the MX500s any good?

the new sony ones which go in our ear for £30 amaze me still. unbelievable for £30 and noice cancelling for those bus rides.

get em

Hum I don't get recommended Sony often.

In which case can someone point me in the direction of a suitable online retailer for this stuff please?

Can't fault Argos.

Any of those worth getting then? I'm still after the final word on wether the MX range oh earphones from Sennheiser are any good really. Anyone know?

If you want the first Sony earbuds, get a pair of Sennheisers instead. The only difference between MX500 and MX400 is the volume control.

Okay thanks. I think I'll gun for some MX 500s.

I had the MX300 from Sennheiser and they felt alway out of my ears. Then I got the PX200 (also form Sennheiser) which are great. They are confortable, very portable and have a very clear sound!

Has anyone tried the Apple iPod earbud's with the Neodymium drivers? I'd be interested to see how they compare to the Sony's and such.

I think the Apple iPod earbuds are MX500s aren't they?

These sound very good and have great isolation from outside noise.
Think of them as the "very poor man's" Etymotic.

Another vote for the PX200's from here. They may cost more than you were wanting to spend but I reckon they're well worth the £40 I paid for them. smile.gif

I've seen those Sony MDREX51LP Fontopia In-Ear Closed Dynamic Portable Headphones for upwards to $45-$55USD in the past. They've always intrigued me because of that common allusion to the Etymotics. I've been trying to decide on a new set of headphones for a NEX II portable MP3 player, and was playing with the idea of the Koss KSC50 clip-ons that are evidently a descendent of the Porta Pro that seemed to get wide acclaim for the ~$30-$35 they used to go for. The Koss KSC50 is only $17.95 at Best Buy right now.

Then I've seen good feedback on the Sennheiser PX100. I see a mention of the PXX200 above, and wonder how they'd sound through the NEX. I've also been playing with the idea of the Grado RS-60 @$65 & RS-80 @ $95 with their retro look. Evidently they work really well with the low powered amplification in portable music players.

Problem is that you just don't know what a set of headphones is going to sound like on >your< piece of equipment until you try them yourself. A set that sounds good on one player can sound entirely different on another. And there's nowhere to test anything out before you buy something.

I'm wondering if anyone has compared the quality of the Fontopias with either the KSC50, old Porta Pro, or PX100.
