After spending countless hours trying to tag some audio files that no doubt somebody that considers a 96Kbps as good as CD quality, and that probably thinks lame is so called because the codec is no good (if they know what a codec is). I was trying to imangine the punishment for people that release such tracks that they must guess who the artists are because some mp3s along with no tags are not spelled correctly or don't have the right artist or song title. How much trouble does it take just to put down the right information?

So any ideas for punishment when I find one of these people?

If you are downloading music tracks from other people, especially if illegally, IMO you shouldn't expect anything at all.

If you are downloading legally sharable music, the community which is engaged in this activity is probably much more likely to be savvy and properly encode and tag their files.

I wasn't talking about illegal music - I agree with you on that

I was dling music that the copyright has expired on - and the community should be a little more knowlegdeable but doesn't seem to be.

Anyways just stupid me ranting away on a subject which is of no real benifit to anyone.

Please delete this thread.

Thanks

I think endless humiliation would be appropriate, but they probably already get plenty of that.

Which music is that? Normally the recording is copyrighted even though the music itself is not...

There was various stuff but I was more ranting about OTR (Old Time Radio) - radio broadcast from the 1930-60, Sherlock Holmes, YTJD, Mystery theatre, etc
Anyways people get their hands on these files and strip off the tags for whatever reason (or they recieve them with no tags) but then they try to guess the actors and the dates. Because these shows are extremly difficult to determine without some sort of tag it becomes very annoyning when they are (sometime deliberatly) labeled or tagged with incorrect information.

Anyhow as I stated it was an error to put this post and I would be happy if someone would delete it or at least not reply and let it die.

wub.gif that era by far is the biggest part of my digital collection, not to mention my $3,000+ collection of tapes/CDs/vinyls that covers all the full spectrum of entertainment from the late 1920's-c. 1963

some shows like the classic 'Quiet Please' - where the creator Wyllis Cooper died in 1955 and any copyrights are expired and long past the point of claiming - are completely free to distribute now. Of course shows such as The Lone Ranger, the spinoff The Green Hornet, or the various Bob Hope radio shows still have full copyright coverage.
