Hello.

We have a little more than 8 hours until test closure.

1. - Yes, some samples will be definitely replaced. Specially Polonaise. But discussion on that will start soon after I return - I want to start discussing the AAC test ASAP so that I can start it on Feb. 18th.

2. - I guess we'll end up with more or less 20 results per sample, that will actually be more than the AAC test, so no worries.

3. - I can promise you there will be surprises wink.gif

4. - Radu and Juha, where are you, you promised to try participate! tongue.gif biggrin.gif

See you soon, ppl.

Roberto.

rjamorim;

I am very eager to hear the results of your tests. And I do appreciate your effort.

However, I think it's fair to tell you why I am *not* participating in your tests...

I don't want to train my ears to hear all the faults in the music I already have. My music hearing has already improved over the past few years simply by listening to more music encoded better and by using better headphones. (I shudder to think what would happen if I got a high quality sound card and professional quality headphones....)

But I don't want to speed up the progress of my ears improving even more.

I would much prefer to listen and enjoy my music, rather than hear all the faults.

Sure, I could re-rip the cd's I already have (and have done so a few times as I've improved), but I do have some music from ... [cough] other sources that I'm stuck with. And some stuff I've ripped are from old casettes that date back to the early 70's! (Hey, at least I left out the stuff from the 8-track tapes! [grin])

So although I am interested in your tests, I'm sorry that I'm not helping you but I just can't take the risk of improving my ears that much.

That's the same reason I didn't participate in a few other tests, such as the transcoding test a few months back that someone else did.

Sometimes ignorance truly is bliss, hehe...

As far as I'm concerned, I'm looking to shred my innocence via web listening tutorials as quickly as possible.

LOL... Yes, it's bad enough enough being a critic and having to buy only music recorded by the Chicago Symphony, New York Phil, Kronos Quartet, etc. because any ensemble/intonation/balance problems one finds in lesser groups ruins the experience. Add to that sound problems inherent in compression and that leaves your car the only place left for compressed music.

*nods in agreement* i'd rather learn from others' varied and numerous mistakes *coughs usenet posters* so i know the music i'm compressing and setting aside won't annoy me biggrin.gif

Who is this guy, anyway? First he gets everybody interested in the upcoming public listening test. Then he runs it for weeks, bitching people about participating. Then finally, closing day. Everyone in breathless suspense waiting for results, and instead the guy takes off to Rio for a couple of days? laugh.gif

Who are you to judge???!! Aren't you the one bitching?

Have you even read this thread? The test was supposed to have closed one week ago, but since not enough results came in, the community together with Roberto decided to extend it for a week. Unfortunately this meant that the closing day collided with Robertos trip, meaning that the results would come a few days later. Everyone agreed on this.

People without any sense of humor are the ones that should go away. This is supposed to be a fun place to be. I only admire people like roberto who has done such an incredible job with this test. My post was just a way say that we are all really eager to hear from him - meaning that he has done something that matters. I am sorry if people missed my point, especially if roberto did. I'll be more careful next time.

Lighten up, magic75. Tycho's post was obviously a joke. Didn't you notice the emoticon he put at the end ?

Arghh, sorry. Me blind.

Calm down, people. You'll all get problems in your ovaries with so much hatred in your hearts biggrin.gif

Yes, sorry about results taking so much time to appear. IF the test ended on time (January 25th), results would be up very early on monday. But I had to postpone the closure due to lack of results and there was no way I would miss Stanley Jordan playing live in São Paulo so that you could get results on time. tongue.gif

Fortunately, tonight I'm returning from this hellhole (don't EVER let anyone convince you Rio de Janeiro is good), so you can expect results around brazilian noon tomorrow.

Also, I plan to start discussion on the AAC test by this weekend the latest, so that I can start it on Feb 18th.

Ph34r not, I'll post a nice and shiny News thread with a link to the final plot as soon as I have things ready.

Regards;

Roberto.
