Hi, I'm a student in the UK studying for a degree in Music Technology. I'm currently writing a thesis on how the internet has effected the music industry and the future of p2p (peer-to-peer) networks.

As part of this work I am conducting a survey of p2p users - the questions are designed to seek the opinions of the people who share and download music. The results of which will be presented to music industry companies and officials.

If you are a p2p user, and would like to aid an independent study of internet user's opinions - please fill in my quick survey. You WILL NOT have to give your name, email address, location or any other personal information.

This is your chance to have your say on the ongoing argument.

The address is http://haveyoursay.zor.org

Many thanks,

Andy.

Hi!

Took the test, but found it a bit confusing.

Many questions had to little detail.

Like
Q11: Do you think music files should be regarded in a similar way to publicly available data files (eg text and images)?

Shouldn't it specify what kinds of copyrights surround the respective files?

Q10: From a moral and ethical standpoint, do you think there
is anything wrong with the sharing and downloading of music?

Should also have more options. For most people it really depends on the reasons and personal policy.
Like, many people I know buy the music from their favorite artists. But don't want to support media-wh**es such as Brit. or Christ.. But such music might be needed for parties and such. So they download it. The biggies obviously don't have any finacial problems, so I certainly don't cry for them. rolleyes.gif

Also thought that the sugested prices to pay for legit downloads was a TAD high.
I mean the price per song on a CD is ~ 16$/20(songs) = 0.8$, which is the second lowest price one is able to pick.
I really think they could lower the prices more than that if they switched to Internet distobution.

Just a few pointers I could think of.

Best of Luck on Your Thesis!

Cheers! All feedback welcome.

Conributed my opinion wink.gif
A little bit confusing question "Do you believe an artist (musician, painter, author, song writer, film maker etc) should be rewarded for their work?"
Should be added more options, IMHO. Forex
- if I like artist's work -I'll pay for it
- artist should earn mney from live concerts (exhibitions, etc.)

P.S. Coul you post the results of survey on the internet?

I have to agree with aSceT, question 25 is lacking some answers. I've answered yes, but what I actually think is that if I like an artist i'll pay for the CD.

I took the test, while a good initiative, I found it seriously lacking in many of the questions.
Sorry for not elaborating, but since the feedback probably won't have any effect, i'll pass smile.gif

Good luck on your thesis though.
