at first, i got clicky and poppy output when playing mp4s...
so i investigated.

EAC did a good job ripping to wav, much more a perfect job.
i use winamp 5.01. output has clicks/pops independent of the choice of output plugin.
the artifacts are heard only when in_mp4 faad plugin is running.

i tried foobar's player, and no artifacts were heard.

this all suggests the input plugin is faulty. any experience with this?
any other plugins for winamp that support mpeg4/aac?

Known. Already fixed.

Try finding a compiled version newer then RC3.

I'm using winamp5 and in_mp4 too. I noticed WAY more cpu usage when playing sbr-aac files (opposed to non sbr ones).
If this is not a decoder bug I understand why there are no sbr capable portable devices yet. Menno?

AAC and SBR are basically 2 seperate codecs, so yes it is slower when decoding a HE AAC file.

I noticed that in Winamp's 5.01 Media Library it's not displaying .m4a tag information! This makes it impossible to filter or select these files using queries! I don't know if this is a Plugin or Winamp issue!
menno
Get a newer version. This feature was added recently.

Hi

I have in_mp4-2.0-rc3.exe using winamp 5.01 i only get Artist / Title / Album but no other metadata in the media library right Window. When i select a file and click view file info the metadata is there, but when i make a querie
filename HAS ".m4a" AND genre HAS "r&b" the result is 0 file's found, i have m4a file's tagged with Genre is R&B i'm a missing a setting here?
menno

Hi Menno

That’s weird I checked it at another pc in the house here with the same effect. Let me try to clear it up.

• I created these file’s using I-tunes from original audio cd’s.
• When I was done I grabbed the complete album data using tag and rename.
• Then I renamed the file’s using a Title – Track mask
• I never changed the extension it always staid .m4a

What I experience is that when I loud these file’s in I-tunes the Tag information is visible and I can use it to make query based play list. My girlfriend doesn’t like some genres so for instance I filter out hard core Hip Hop 

But in Winamp 5.01 I can select one of those files, right click and I can see all the tag data. Only in the Media Library the fields are not displayed I placed a screenshot at http://members.lycos.nl/ovhell/temp/

• Janet Jackson - Back.m4a
• M4a.gif
• M4a2.gif

As you can see the Metadata is there but it’s not seen in the right pane!?

You are running way too old version. I added Medialibrary interface Fri Nov 21 17:08:27 2003 UTC.

I'm waiting for Faad2 2.0 final (should be out soon, according to Menno) to update the packages and build at Sourceforge.

Hmm, try some different compile of the in_mp4 plugin. If foobar plays it you may just have some unlucky version.
If you want you can send a small file to mbakker (at) nero (dot) com.

If this is not a decoder bug I understand why there are no sbr capable portable devices yet.

There are SBR capable portable devices already, but not HE-AAC, only mp3PRO. So the possibility exists for HE-AAC as well smile.gif
