Full Version: installing DLL-codecs under Win XP
Hydrogenaudio Forums > Digital Audio/Video > General A/V
Hiwi
Hi!

Iīm quite familiar with EAC and audio-codecs in general, but i never used the .DLLs...

To use Lame respectively OGG-Vorbis i wanted to install these DLLs to use them with Xvid, or any other Mpeg4-Video-Encoder...

But, how do i install them, so that programs like VirtualDub can use them?
And which Versions are recommended for ripping DVDs?

Another question:
To rip some DVDs which ripping-programs and transcoder-programs would you recommend?
(I read something about Smartripper and Vidomi, but i havenīt tried both, yet)

Perhaps, any suggested Tutorials?

Hi, I moved your thread since it was in the wrong forum. Anyway, as for installing your codecs probably if you put the .dll or .ax or whatever they are into the folder you want and then go to run and then type regsvr32 "path to file\.dll" usually when you get something like this people put it in a nice installer so you don't have to do this manually. But anyway, that about all I can help you with since you didn't say specifically what you were trying to install. For ripping dvds I recommend you check out the guides on http://www.doom9.org you can use GordainKnot or just virtualdubmod and avisynth. Smartripper is for actually decrypting the dvd vidomi is for encoding. Smartripper is ok, but dvddecrypter is better. And vidomi just plain sucks don't use it. Follow those guides on doom9 and you will be fine smile.gif.
Hiwi
Thanks, so far!

I just want to install the Lame_enc.dll to use it with Vidomi (or any better solution)...
I tried your help: (regsvr32 c:\test\lame_enc.dll), but i became the following error: "c:\test\lame_enc.dll was loaded, but the DLL-RegisterServer-Starting-Point wasnīt found. This file could not be registered." (<= i tried to translate... i got the message in german...) mad.gif

Any ideas? I want to use the Lame 3.90.3-DLL from Rarewares...

Ah, I see what the problem is. Ok, if you want to use lame with a video encoding application you need to install the lame acm, you can find it in the lame dir once you unzip it there will be a .inf file, right click on that and chose install.
Hiwi
Hmm... i just unipped the Lame... - but thereīs no .inf file...
What does acm exactly mean?

Hiwi

ACM is a really old interface for connecting encoders to other third pary applications like vidomi for example. It has certain limitations which make it very annoying, I personally tend to avoid it all together. If you use cbr mp3 it will be ok though. But if you use vidomi I guess you will want to use it. Anyway, it seems none of the stable packages have the acm and there were problems with the lame 3.95 acms posted on rarewares so I will link you to one from Gabriel, http://gabriel.mp3-tech.org/lame download the .acm as well as the .inf file and chose right click on the .inf and go to install.

I'm absolutely free for every better suggestion...!
For music i'm using the mppenc.exe! - But i thaught for video Lame or Ogg Vorbis is the most recommended audio-codec...
For the video, i thaught about XVid, because i don't want to pay for DivX...
Which programs, codecs would you suggest?

I wonder which Version this is? I was looking for the 3.90.3, or is there no .dll???

Further this way didn't work as well...

Ok, well there certainly is a better way of doing things. I hoped you would ask smile.gif. You can use Besweet which is IMO the best way to encode audio from dvds. I go to http://dspguru.doom9.org download the latest beta of besweet and the besweetgui. You can encode the audio to lame mp3, ogg vorbis, ac3, or even aac smile.gif. Once you have the encoded audio you encode the video seperately. Then after it is all done you mux it all back together in a good container such as OGM or mp4 or matroska so you can take advantage of VBR audio. Once again I really recommend that you check out the guides on http://www.doom9.org and _not_ use vidomi rather use avisynth and virtualdubmod.
EDIT: BTW the version of the ACM that I linked you too was 3.95, if this does not work I do not know how to make it work with vidomi. Like I said vidomi is pretty bad. There should be a ACM version for 3.90.3 but anyway IMO it is much better to use besweet.

Well, i just played a lit' around with that, and also with Gordian Knot...
My first result (with Sleepy Hollow) was just surprising good with Lame Mp3 and xVid...

But now i've got some new questions:

- I still don't know which versions of Lame or Ogg Vorbis "BeSweet" uses?
(I plan to use the Garf-tuned Ogg Vorbis-Codec with -q6)
- What about DVDs with Wav-Soundfiles? How do i convert them?

Isn't this possible with .avi too? - What are the differences between your listed containers?
(pros /cons)
How do i do this synchronisation-part?

(I just made my first try with Gordian Knot, so i'm not so familiar with the different tools...)

Thanks, so far

Hiwi

Btw. the Link to www.doom9.org was realy quite good! smile.gif - just a little complex, for a beginner with a very bad english...

If you want to use gt3b1 with BeSweet, you need to download "libvorbis.dll using GT3b1 based on LibVorbis v1.0" from Rarewares and replace the libvorbis.dll with the one from Rarewares.
If your dvd has lpcm-audio, it isn't a problem. BeSweet can handle also these files. If you use the gui, you need to change the filter in open dialog to show also pcm files
Stucking vbr audio into avi is only possible because microshaft's DirectShow avi reader has a bug in it. Vbr audio isn't in the avi specs.

Sorry! I still do not understand, how to "bundle" the Ogg-Audio-file together with the Video-file...
Is VBR-Audio-encoding also possible with Gordian Knot, or is it better to do the jobs manually with the different tools?
After i have done the audio-part with besweet, or oggmachine, and the video-part using VirtualDubmod, which tool is used to bundle these both files?
And what is the recommended container for this (Ogg-Vorbis + xVid)?

Which programs will be able to play this?

Lots of questions, i know, but the more i read around about it, the more i get confused... crying.gif

Thanks, in advance... smile.gif

check http://www.doom9.org/vdubmod-procedures.htm

from that page:
QUOTE
AVI: The standard, supports MP2, MP3, AC3 and DTS audio, no subtitles and has no error correction.

OGM: Supports MP3, AC3 and Ogg Vorbis audio, subtitles and it has built-in error correction which can be useful for XCDs. Requires special playback filters and the standard might change in the future as the lead developer has teamed up with the Xiph foundation to provide an open source container based on the Ogg framework (OGM is supposed to implement the Ogg specs but there's been a lot of debate if it truly does that). OGM also supports chapters.

Matroska is the youngest of the containers and still very much in development. It was designed from scratch to support most DVD backup scenarios and will be very editable (OGM is more designed for streaming and it took a long time to get a useful OGM editing application: VDubMod). Matroska currently supports MP2, MP3, AC3 and Ogg Vorbis audio

on the other hand avimux gui enlarges the selection of possibilities...,

http://www-user.tu-chemnitz.de/~noe/Video-.../index-eng.html

(so probably either ogm or matroska, vdubmod should be able to mux your files into any of those)

for ogm playback you will need

(The Ogg Vorbis DirectShow filter collection)
Hiwi
Thanks! Slowly, i start do understand most thinks, related to DVD-ripping... biggrin.gif

For the first time, i decided to use .avi as my container...
(until other containers are supported by hardware...)

So, i have to go with MP3... sad.gif and i like to use GordianKnot...

Does anyone know, which Lame-Version GKnot (or better: BeSweet started by GKnot) uses?
- is it the one, i selected in BeSweet (i choosed the 3.90.3 - exe)
- or is it always the .dll in the Besweet-folder (If so, can i just replace this Version) ???

Off-Topic: I just registered at Doom9.org for the forum... and i donīt want to cross-post...
Should i further use this forum, for everyhing Video-related, or just change completely to Doom9???
With other words: Should this forum stay a mainly Audio-forum?

re: offtopic, read
http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index....l=video+section

for some of the reasons why this forum got a video section.

(and btw, crossposting is reffered to as posting the same question in the same forum at two different sections usualy)

Feel free to use these video sections as you like. We need something to moderate... The current problem of the Doom9's forum is that it is full of noobs asking stupid question to which all the gurus are tired of answering. The video coverage of Hydrogenaudio is getting bigger all the time, and this place is full of super gurus (we biggrin.gif) who are just waiting to get an opportunity to answer your questions. We want to get your questions here! smile.gif
Hiwi
...pleasing to ear! biggrin.gif

I'm sure there will be many questions in the next time...
