This has been an issue that has been bugging me for awhile, however I haven't been able to confirm it until recently (when I noticed that albums for which I know had calculated album/track gain had been stripped of all extra technical fields.)
However, this seems to happen to random albums, at random times. I have noticed this happening more often when I change the Replaygain mode from Album to Track and vice versa.
This problem has existed for awhile, and has happend to me at least since version 0.7
And this seems to be an issue with IDv3 tags only, as my Vorbis collection has not been affected.
Any input would be appreciated, it's a pain to have to re-apply replaygain on an album repeatedly.
Edit:Taking a second look, I now am seeing that this is happening to Vorbis tags as well, so this is not an IDv3 problem.
could be, that you did make the same mistake, as i did a while ago:
- goto preferences/database
- make sure you do not have the database DISABLED and "dont write modified tags" ENABLED at the same time
Explanation: fb2k uses the database ALWAYS to store its tags. The architecture is a bit like this "File<->Database<->FB2k" - so whenever something changes to the tags(like replaygain-info), it first goes to the database. Everything fb2k shows you about tags, be it the playlist, the file-infobox, etc, is read from the database - what you SEE is NOT whats in the files themselves.
Ok, so far so good, disabling the database doesn't really disable the database(IMHO, the label is very misleading) - it just makes the database be cleared from time to time. So, when you disable the database, but at the same time forbid fb2k to write the tags to the files, your replaygain-info gets lost when the database gets cleared.

These are both disabled in my configuration, so this cannot be the problem. I know that the replaygain values are being written to the file, becasue I can go into the file information dialouge and hit "Reload Info From Files"; the values are not removed from the database when this happens.
In addition, when I attempt to use "Reload Info From Files" i am unable to recover the replaygain values from the files (So I really know that they were removed from the files, not just the database.)
I'm tempted to just select all tracks in my playlist and apply album gain to the whole thing (using the Album field); since I have the option of not re-scanning files with replaygain values alredy in them checked, this will not be to bad.
However, I shouldn't have to do this in the first place...
i hope you will solve this ... another option is to backup your tags ... i'm going to make my script available, which does exactly that - exports / imports tags

That would be a great thing to do, as many songs in my library contain detailed tags (such as artist, and source website) which I would not be able to replicate should these tags be lost.
I have thought about using an external program such as MP3Gain to scan my MP3's, however I do not know what alternative I would have for Vorbis, or other mediums (such as SPC, PSF, etc).

I'm resurrecting this thread becuase today I started using Replaygain in Foobar2k on my flac files , and saw something similar happening. First, when I replagain scanned the whole playlist, it wouldn 't update certain files and threw an 'file update failed' error message (mostly for a bunch of tracks from Britney Spears' "Greatest Hits' CD, then all the files *after* that batch in the list too). So I went through the list and either group-rescanned or individually scanned the files that weren't updated in the first scan. File Info (special) showed that all the files now had replaygain track_gain and track_peak info . ( I also set up a column in columns_UI to show a 'dot' if the file had replagain info, minus sign if not)
But when I clicked on one of the Britney tracks...the replaygain info *vanished*. The dot turned into a minus sign. THis didn't happen to other tracks (ones that had made it through the first scan. ) Using 'V' to move down the list, I could watch the dots turn to minus signs as it moved through the BS album tracks. I rescanned some of them...but again they lost their info when I actually *played* the files.
Just out of a desire to have a 'clean' file, I ran 'remove replaygain info' on all those files, then rescanned...and this time it seemed to 'stick'.
My settings during all of this epidsode were
Database : enabled
Block tag update operations: not checked
Replayagain mode: use track gain
Skip tracks/albums that already have replaygain info: checked
I hadn't added replagain tags during ripping -- I had no idea one could even do that, until today. So the files had no replaygain info before I scanned them today.
THe Foobar directory is on my notebook computer. The FLAC files are on an external hard drive connected to it by USB cable.
Any ideas as to what was going on, and how to make sure it doesn't happen again, would be appreciated.
