I need to encode some old mono stuffs, is there any way to encode "mono".
I'm not a MPC specialist, so be very clear, please.
Thanks
Jan S.
I would have to look that up...
but anyway...Are you sure the source is real mono?
Some cd's that say mono really isn't real mono.

I'm not sure, but I think it goes automatically. I recall encoding mono tracks with standard profile and they had a bitrate of around 88 (half of what a stereo track would be).

Yes, when the tracks are really mono, MPC encoder encode mono but some old classic records have been recorded mono but there is a stereo track.
I would like to force mono with my encoder.
I don't want to rip my cd, then render stereo to mono with Cool Edit, ...... It is possible with MP3, isn't it possible with MPC?

I know the usual advice here is to rip with EAC, but...

I rip with WinDAC, and in the config box you can set it to rip in mono (l, r, or l+r). You go straight from stereo CD to mono .wav - no Cool Edit required.

It strikes me that a similar thing may be hiding in EAC because the dialogue box looks like it's just changing the Windows PCM "codec" settings.

btw, sometimes, if the CD should be mono, but isn't quite, it's better to choose one channel (or the other) rather than mixing the two - this avoids nasty phasey effects if the transfer to CD wasn't great - which, let's face it, it can't have been if a mono recording has two different channels! If it's fake stereo (i.e. the two channels are intentionally very different) then it's best to encode it as stereo.

Hope this helps,

Cheers,
David.
