Full Version: Encoding Classic Music with MPC.

Hi,
Is Extreme safe enough to encode Classic Music in order to listen my MPCs on a very good Hifi configuration?
I'm encoding braindeadly but I'm sure it's far too much.
If Xtrem was not enough, Does someone know a setting that makes Xtrem "strong enough" to encode tough instruments like harpsichord, castagnets,...
Thanks

Why not listen and see?

But anyway, the majority of classical music is actually easier to encode than something like heavy metal or grunge. You're probably safe enough.

I've done many tests but there is one major fact : my hi-fi is a very very cheap one. I would like to be sure.

I don't understand this obsession with expensive equipment. Especially when it comes to encoding artefacts this is a no-issue. If you can't hear any problems with a descent pair of headphones (25 - 50 Eur) you will not hear it on any other system. The biggest factor is training.

Actually good equipment can set a higher requiment for better encoding

you can have a cheap equipmenst which disort sound sligtly
if the sound is dsitorted a little bit by encoding you uold notice this because what ever the encoding is distorted or not i will get distorted by the equipment anyway

having a equipemn who does not ADD more artifacts make you more noticaable on the encoding artifacts

or to put it in another way both encoding and equipment can be a "bottleneck" and the play chain

of cause you need to be able to hear the artifacts
if you cannot hear them in the first place no amount of better equipment or better encoding will make it better for you

I'm sorry but I haven't really understood your reply.
The fact is I am impressed by those who say "I'm encoding "insane nmt99 tmn 450" because I've got a good hearing and I want the best".
I've decided to give braindead up.
Xtrem seems good enough to me because I didn't notice any problem on Wagner with that preset (I used my Sennheiser hd200 headphones- they cost as much as my hifi : 85 euros). On a french forum, a guy made a test-session with very very expensive hardware (about 15 000 euros). The 5 listeners didn't notice any difference between Xtrem and the original tracks (5 songs from different styles that are difficult to encode).
I think there is nothing to add ( but I would be happy to get more opinions)wink.gif
