How can i make the mass tagger in Foobar support characters like "æ", "ø" and "å"?

When i am encoding my EAC images with foobar, and the cue file contains cd-text with those characters, they are added to the mp3 tags without any problem. But when i use the mass tagger on the files (to add something to the "comment" tag), all the special characters are replaced with "?".

And if i tag the files in Winamp instead of Foobar, all the tags are displayed like this in Foobar:
QUOTE
9. ???????? - [??????????? ?? ??? ???????? ???????? ?? ??????? ?? ??????? #00] ???? ??? ???? ???? [4:39]

Let me guess... you're using Windows 98/Me, right?

Hi - can you check the version of your foobar component foo_id3v2? (You can see the version number in the Preferences/Components pane.)
I had a problem similar to what you are describing, and it was due to a bug in this component. The version of foo_id3v2 number 1.11 is the most recent one.
See this forum thread: bug in foo_id3v2 v1.10 There's also a download link to the v1.11 file on the post by kode54 (WWW link button at the bottom of that post).
Does this fix your problem?

I could be wrong, but I think 2000 was the first windows to properly support unicode characters. I have no idea if 98 had work arounds or not.

Mh... should I add that even with the .11 plugin I am back to use ISO instead of UTF+BOM because even my win2000 and my xp machines are displaying the ???? within the Mediaplayer (ok, haven't checked the new WMPs, as I am still using 6.4 - on my Win2kPro machine it even crashs the explorer when I enable the view of the ID3 tag field) but all other programms I use that are reading (and that includes my Win98SE and Win95B PCs) the UTF/BOM tags are displaying them correctly....
And yes, Win2k was the first Windows I know of (but I am not sure of the older NT based ones)... for (95?)/98 there were only some support in the form of conversion tables or whatever it was (The link to the M$ info on this is to be found in some other thread in this forum)

I have now enabled the "Write ISO tags" option. I have no idea what that means, but now it works!

I have a lot of cd images (from EAC), and i am using Foobar to encode them to mp3s. The problem is that the mp3s i already have encoded, are still displayed wrong in Foobar. (when the artist should be "Dødheimsgard", it says "D?dheimsgard"). I want to use the Foobar masstagger to add something to the "comment" tag field. Then the tags that are displayed incorrectly in foobar are somehow rewritten too (?), so that the wrong characters are displayed in every other player as well. How can i fix this?

And should i be using foo_id3v2 1.10 or 1.11 ?

When i tried using 1.11, ALL the mp3s i have encoded with Foobar earlier was displayed like this:

QUOTE
11. ????????? - [??????????? ?? ??? ???????? ???????? ?? ??????? ?? ??????? #00] ???? ??????? [4:45]

But when i am using 1.10 only some characters are displayed wrong (æ ø and å are replaced with "?")
Shandra
On those Songs you encoded earlier you may try to reset the tags through Foos Database (if it still contains the original data) - Otherwise you may try some other ID3 TagProgramms... if one of them is able to read the "corrupted (ok, false word for it but I don't know wich better one to use)" tags use that to rewrite the tags that should fix the problem (at least that was what had helped me after I had used Foo for ReplayGain Calculations with the 1.10 version - but that had only brought back the "normal" characters - I had to went through the tags again to replace all special characters by hand thereafter.... oops.. well sorry, haven't recognized your last statement about 1.10 so I think you could well use the 1.10 to get the information to foos database and then use the 1.11 to rewrite the tags from the database wink.gif and what remains is the problems of the special characters - maybe using the systems codepage may help (when reading in the information) - but that would only be a guess on my side)
By the way... any reason why you don't make the MP3s with EAC if you already use that for wav extraction?

Upgrade your foo_id3v2 to 1.12 and reload your tags.

What is the difference between 1.12 and 1.11? Is there something wrong with version 1.11?
