is it possible to embed cuesheets in an mp3 with apev2 tag?

When I add a new value "cuesheet" the same way I would with an .ape, it doesnt work... so is there any way to get mp3+embedded cues to work?

TIA

IIRC, the MP3 format does not support sample-accurate seeking, a must for cue sheets.

The method that foobar uses, for example, is a "brute force" approach in which the whole file is scanned when sample-accurate seeking is needed.

Try searching the forum for more info.

Cue sheets shouldn't be used by now, they create all kind of probs and don't add any improvement (gapless listening ca be achieved by plenty of other means, no need for these damn cue sheets).

Split it with foobar diskwriter into wavs, then compress it again and your cue sheets probs are forgotten. And remember: most cue sheet will link to the .wav file, when the file you want to split is mp3 or mpc So you'll have to edit it. That's one of the joys of cue sheets (funny, I was just doing that right now biggrin.gif).

Which problems would that be, if you don't mind me asking? (I'm not aware of any and too lazy to do research rolleyes.gif )

transcoding just to split a file?

Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but wouldn't it make more sense, to use some kind of mp3-cutter, to split the file losslessly? Or at least recompress it with a lossless codec, such as flac, ape, etc.? Of course, if the mp3 is at 320kbps, pardon my paranoia and go ahead.

Yes, you are correct..

I guess I'm a freak though, I wouldn't even want to transcode a 320 kbps AAC, nevermind an MP3..

It does, but it has to read through the entire stream to the point seeked to for it to work.

I'd be pretty interested as well.
I'm unfamiliar with any problems, the only thing I can think of off the top of my head are what I would call minor irritants.
1) Having to change the extension to that of the medium you are encoding to.
2) Burning software.

Thanks, tec

Yup...

That's what I meant by this:

But you said it better. smile.gif
