Full Version: ASIO or KS?

Hello! I found that I can use both ASIO and Kernel Streaming Output method in the FB2K.

My soundcard is SB Live. Some say KS is an experimental tech, do not use it. But my KS works well. Some say the ASIO mehod is just an analog output in SB Live, we should use KS directly.

I do not know whether the ASIO or the KS is better for me. Can someone give me a suggestion?

My foo_output_asio is v0.35 downloaded from http://www3.cypress.ne.jp/otachan/.

BTW is there any difference between the dll version and the exe version of foo_output_asio plugin?

No.
You should use dll version, unless you experience problems with sound skipping.

I just tried the ASIO plugin with my audigy 2 ZS and I can only get it working for 16/48 playback.
24/96 is listed in the asio device selection box but when I use that one is says "failed to initialize ASIO driver" what am I doing wrong?

I see.

kernel streaming in Creative cards accepts 44.1 KHz data, and in fact this data gets resampled to 48 KHz 16-bit internally by the card.

We know, the internal resampling of SB Live is not so good. Can I say ASIO is better(Because ASIO requires DSP Resampling)?

Another thing. I found another Resampler at http://www3.cypress.ne.jp/otachan/foo_secret.html . This is also a SSRC Resampler wrote by Otachan. Is this resampler better than the original FB2K resampler? What about the Quality option of this resampler? Should I switch it to Top? or High is enough?

Thanks!

Probably there is no audible difference between them when using Resampler.

Both are based on SSRC, but foo_dsp_ssrc can resample to 176400 and 192000Hz.

Low is enough.

Not that it really matters, but is there any way to resample to 192k and then give it to the card and make it play that without downsampling to 96000? I mean the card supports 192k so it should be possible right?
If creatives dvd-audio player can do it so can I right?

It doesn't improve quality. Why would you do it then?

To see that it works?
Some day, 10-20 years from now I might finally get some actual music that is real 192k.
If I did, I would want to play that music in foobar.
