Hi
I am not sure which to use, loss-less or lossy?
So what are you using?
A loss-less: APE, Flac, OptimFROG...etc.
A lossy: Mp3, AAC, Ogg vorbis, Mpc...etc.
I see good and bad things about both, what do you thing?
Why isn't there an "I use both" choice?

I mainly use 2 different codecs.

For backups of my favorite albums I use Lossless = FLAC
For playback on my computer & iPod i use Lossy = AAC

Edit: As 'Moneo' I also miss the "I use both" choice, so I was unable to vote!
Sounds good with 2 different codecs.
I do also have a portable mp3 player.
Sorry about there wasn't a both choice in the poll.
Didn't think about that...
thanX anyway.

I use both.
My main collection is in Monkey's Audio format, and I regularly transcode to various lossy formats, depending on the purpose.

I think I'll stick to OGG GT3
I only have a 40GB space, lossless is not going fit in

I also use as well lossy and lossless
I use Ogg an FLAC on my PC and MP3 for my iPod.
The answer is: Not lossy OR lossless, lossy AND lossless!

There needs to be a choice for the people who use both lossy and lossless(I am one of those people). I use:
MPC q6 for my computer
Vorbis gt3b1 q6 for my Karma
FLAC for rare cds(MOFI original master recordings...etc)

Again, both. Lossless for backup, lossy to listen to. I voted lossy, though, since most of my music is in that format...
Hehe, you didn't think about putting "Both" as an option but put "I don't know"?

Well, there are surely some people that don't know the difference, but if they are already here I sincerely hope they do.

I agree as I use both too. This poll should have a "both" option.

Flac for initial EAC rip (and some playback) trans'd to mostly ogg and some LAME -aps mp3's.

FLAC for archiving CD's and AAC for listening too from my computer.
So both.

Since my ears are really wasted, lossless is only a waste of space to me. MPC @q7 seems to be a nice trade-off to space and quality. It probably gives me more quality than I could ever be aware off, but I like to be on the safe side

That is lossy
I use lossless for LP's which are a pain to re-rip, and I get some stuff on-line in flac or shn format, like Magnatune purchases or shareable concert files.
I use mostly Ogg for playing on the computer or portable player.
lossles for new albums (just ripped), then i either transcode them to mpc q5 (when iam running out of disk) or in the near future i will probably go with nero aac, older albums i heard several times before go straight to lossy usually, at the end i backup to cdr's flac + mpc or aac... (is that weird?)
Another vote for the non-existant option "both" here.
MP3 APS for most stuff but currently ripping entire
Space collection to FLAC.

FLAC for backup and playing from my music server PC, MP3 for my flash player (maybe AAC soon if i get an ipod, 256kbps AAC sounds pretty sweet!)

Another vote for "both"-Flac for storage, and nero aac or lame mp3 for lossy (primarily nero aac now)

I use FLAC as my primary format at home and in my car.
But I also listen to MP3 on my crappy (CBR-only) portable player at work. Until I get a Rio Karma, that is. Then I be a FLACer
all the time.
