Full Version: Converting AVI/etc. to MKV?

I'm trying to use AVI-MUX GUI to convert a bunch of existing AVI files (DivX5 Video, MP3 VBR Audio) to MKV containers... and that part of the process works. However, when I double click on the MKV file to open it, ZoomPlayer loads up and then says:

Unable to create filters for [C:\testvideo.mkv]
This may be due to a corrupt file or missing decoder filters.

Now, what's strange is that I do indeed have Matroska installed correctly, as ZoomPlayer's "System" tab shows:

> Matroska:
Found: (00600000) Matroska Splitter

I also have DIVX loaded properly:

> DIVX 4+:
Found: (40000004) ffdshow MPEG-4 Video Decoder
Found: (00800000) DivX Decoder Filter
Found: (00600000) Nero Video Decoder

I can't for the life of me figure out why the MKV file isn't being played. Is the file corrupted/not in the right format since I'm using AVI-Mux GUI to convert it to MKV? Should I try VirtualDubMod?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide..

Is that message displayed in Media Player Classic as well?

Give it a try.

Just tried VirtualDubMod to convert an AVI (Divx5/mp3) to MKV, and it too doesn't want to playback. I'll try Media Player Classic when I get home tonight...

It seems like a filter problem.

Try installing a Matroska pack, from http://packs.matroska.org/
Try this one.
http://dl.matroska.org/packs/Matroska_Pack_MPEG4_v1.0.1.exe

Anyways, Media Player Classic includes the latest Matroska Splitter, so it should playback fine your mkv files.

Do you have matroskasplitter.ax in /windows/system32 ?
- if not: find it and put it in smile.gif
- if yes: Start, execute, regsvr32 matroskasplitter.ax smile.gif

Or juste install a pack smile.gif

This is an old thread. I guess it has been solved now.
Also all these softwares have evolved since then.
