I'm a linux only user.

xmms already degaps your files by default. If they are mp3ed properly there will be no gaps. If the gaps are made with a wierd encoder your out of luck. Since any decently encoded mp3s should be fine, there is no gapless playback plugin I know of.

Have you checked the xmms web site for the other plugins? Or the format manufacturers? I've never had a great desire to play mpc ape or lpac, but I'm pretty sure there would be plugins on the xmms.org site. (I mean there's plugins for commodore 64 .sid files and such!)

thx for response,

i've found only one lossless_input_plugin on xmms.org and it's shorten sad.gif
if anyone knows about an ape/lpac plugin for xmms so please tell me.

gapless output by default? hm... while playing mpc files in xmms there are pops or silence between the songs. the same files played on winamp+gapless_plugin sounds good.

it looks like there is another thing that only windows user has fun with it sad.gif

...office
...audio
...graphics
...games

is there any application under linux who can make a windows box unnecessary? biggrin.gif

PlugIns available:
- MPEG Layer 1,2 and 3
- AAC
- FLAC
- OGG Vorbis
- MPC
- MOD
- Shorten
- OptimFROG

Gapless do not work, at least a pause with 200 ms is between the tracks.

Listen to FM radio, TV, CD, Compact Cassette Tape, MP3, MPC using dedicated devices
and computers.

Well, since it doesn't close the sound device and reopen it like winamp did, there is no pop/click/gap introduced by xmms. Perhaps the input plugin is faulty.

I certainly have no problems with the mp3s I've ripped, or the many vorbis's I have.

There are plenty of applications that run on nix and not windows, plenty of my favourites.

gRip, Xine, GDAM (Greg and Dave's audio mixer), all the good server proggies.

It's very likely to never see a LPAC XMMS plugin. APE may be available if someone
programs it. Source and also Libs are free available.

Last XMMS I tested (1.2.5) is very instable here and generates long pauses between the tracks even when setting the default to 0 sec. Why are default always 2 seconds.
Every programs tries to damage audio by default adding 2 seconds of silence.
Feurio, XMMS, ...

The pause is optional, off by default on my install. If you check the checkbox for adding a pause, the default length of the pause is 2 seconds, but the checkbox is unchecked. I get no discernable gap in my output, on both vorbis mix-cd rips, and lame-mp3...

It opens and closes the audio device between tracks. For WAV, Shorten,
OptimFROG, MP3, MPC. This is always audible.

http://freshmeat.net/search/?q=wave+editor§ion=projects

If you are looking for a specific linux app, search freshmeat. If it exists, it's almost definitely listed there.

More specifically, "WaveForge" is listed there as a SoundForge clone for linux. Haven't tried it.

Well, there is Audacity.
http://audacity.sourceforge.net

But it's full of bugs and not nearly as good as CoolEdit/SoundForge/Samplitude - yet.

Here's WaveForge site:
http://www.tfm.ro/waveforge/2frames.html
Never tested it, but seems to be at the very beginning of development. Audacity seems a bit more mature, at least.

Roberto.
