Does anyone know if the Sony DRU-530A (much prettier to look at) or Plextor PX-708A CD/DVD Burner is able to perform DAE from a Hybrid SACD? I've got a Plextor PX-504A right now and it is unable to read the disc at all. I'm using a small form factor Shuttle XPC enclosure which only has room for a single drive, so I'm looking for an all-in-one CD/DVD Burner that can do the job. For the time being, I'm ripping my Hybrid SACDs with a Plextor UltraPlex 40max, located in an older PC, but I'd like to be able to get rid of that noisy old tower as soon as possible.

As far as I can tell DVD ROMs and DVD burners can't read hybrid SACDs since they see the DVD (SACD) layer and can't read that. CD ROMs and CD burners can read the CD layer of a hybrid SACD fine since to them it looks like a normal CD.

SACD shouldn't be detected as DVD. I've ripped three SACD with my liteon DVD player (166S). But I've also heard about compatibilities problems with some players.

I ripped The Dark Side of The Moon SACD with my LG 8160B DVD reader without any problem.

Ok thanks for the info. I tried it on a couple dvd drives and coudn't get it to work, so I gave up. I'll try it on other drives to see if i can get it to work.

We're getting off-topic here. I'm hearing about CD/DVD Readers--I've had no trouble with my Plextor UltraPlex 40max--but the question was/is whether anyone has found a DVD Burner that can successfully perform DAE from a Hybrid SACD. And, more specifically, whether the Sony DRU-530A or the Plextor PX-708A CD/DVD Burner will do the trick. Anyone?

You could ask on this Plextor forum. There is a lot of PX-708A owners (nearly half of the topics ). I only have a CD-RW Premium reader, so I can't help you.

My Lite-on LDW-401S DVD burner has no problems whatsoever with hybrid SACDs. I have ripped about 10 of them so far.
